The Community and Social Services Graduate Program is your path to an exciting career in community services.  

THIS PROGRAM COULD BE RIGHT FOR YOU IF YOU: 

  • Have recently graduated (within the last two years) or are about to graduate from courses in a field of study related to community and social services 
  • Are new to the community and social services professional workforce, and
  • Are looking to invest in your career through a learning and development program designed to help you thrive in a challenging community and social services role. 

ABOUT THE PROGRAM  

Successful applicants will be connected with a role in community and social services that is appropriate for recent graduates and fully paid in accordance with industry awards and conditions. 

Graduates in the program will participate in a professional development program offering training, enhanced supervision and other supports to help you thrive in your new role and maximise your potential. The program includes:

  • Cross-sector induction to build your understanding of the service system in practice 
  • A tailored professional learning program 
  • Enhanced professional supervision, and
  • Peer networking with other graduates across community services.

HOW TO APPLY    

Applications for round 1 will open on 3 June and close in mid-July.

You will need: 

  • Resume 
  • Qualification transcript, or if yet to graduate an unofficial transcript and date you will finish your qualification
  • Proof of eligibility to work in Australia

Screening: July – August 2024 

This will take place across July and August 2024.

Matching and candidate selection – August 2024 

If successful, you will be matched into a role that’s a fit for you. 

Start your new job – September and October 2024 

The first cohort of graduates will start work from late September or October 2024.

HAVE YOU RECENTLY STARTED IN THE COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL SERVICES SECTOR? 

Eligible graduates that were employed in the previous 12 months may also be able to participate in the program.

To apply, your employer must: 

  • Agree to support your participation in the program
  • Meet the employer eligibility requirements 
  • Complete the Community and Social Services Graduation Program employer registration.

Once your employer is notified of its eligibility to participate, your employer will be requested to provide the details of your nomination for the program.

  • Role accountabilities
  • Applicable award and conditions 
  • Qualification requirements
  • Location

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To apply you must be a new or recent graduate (within the last 2 years) of a qualification in a field of study related to community and social services at Diploma, Bachelors or Masters level.

This includes but is not limited to: 

  • Diploma of Community Services (AQF5) 
  • Bachelor of Social Work (AQF7)
  • Graduate Diploma in Family Violence (AQF8)
  • Masters of Social Work (AQF9).

You must also: 

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen OR 
  • Australian permanent resident OR 
  • A temporary resident who holds a visa that gives them the right to work in Australia   
  • Commit to a 12-month employment position. 
  • Be willing to undergo required pre-employment safety screening checks which may incorporate the following: 
    • Police record checks
    • Referee checks
    • Employment history
    • Qualification check
    • Working with children check
    • Out-of-home care disqualified carer check and carer register
    • Check against the Disability Worker Exclusion List

International qualifications are accepted if the relevant assessing authority (Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) has confirmed recognition and equivalency of qualification.
