The Digital Literacy Foundation (DLF) (formerly Leep NGO) is an Australian not-for-profit organisation. We advocate for, and directly serve, the most vulnerable and marginalised members of disadvantaged communities, whose lack of digital connection and skills compounds their social exclusion and economic disadvantages. Our mission is to create a socially and digitally inclusive society, where no one is left behind.
We currently offer two volunteering programs:
The Digital Literacy Foundation offers practical support to increase basic digital skills, and to enable people to use technology in their daily lives. Committed to addressing the issues of access, motivation, skills, and trust that challenge universal digital literacy, we have provided nearly 5,000 free one-on-one, face-to-face digital mentoring programs since 2015, delivered by trained volunteer ‘Tech Mates’ across Western Sydney and Far Western New South Wales.
Our volunteer Tech Mates work one-on-one to digitally mentor each Learner individually, so that people safely develop digital confidence and skills.
In 2023, the Digital Literacy Foundation became a provider of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS), working with around 140 community organisations nationally, on behalf of the Department of Health and Aged Care, to recruit and support volunteers to visit socially isolated older people.
Volunteer visits are available to recipients of government-subsidised residential aged care or Home Care Packages (including care recipients approved or on the National Priority System for residential or home care packages).Volunteer visiting is a free service that aims to provide friendship and companionship to socially isolated older people, thereby helping them to develop social connections.
Currently in the process of expanding our operations nationally, the Digital Literacy Foundation welcomes high achievers who share our passion for social justice and inclusion, who can engage with a variety of stakeholders (older and poorer Australians, people living with disability, from other cultures/refugees, potential partners and donors), and who are excited to take on new challenges with initiative and creativity.
Customer service is central to this role, which services the Hawkesbury Community Hubs program and the Hawkesbury Library Service.
A front-line role providing a positive service experience for our clients, volunteers, and other external stakeholders, you will support the general smooth operation of the organisation and will be key to enabling the Foundation to achieve its mission of building social inclusion in marginalised communities through digital mentoring and volunteer visiting.
You will have strong communication skills and enjoy working to find solutions for a better customer experience. A natural team player with a desire to join a growing not-for-profit organisation, you will be required to:
Given the vulnerable nature of our clientele, this role may suit a social worker or nurse looking for a change of pace, or who are moving toward retirement/semi-retirement.
You show empathy when dealing with volunteers, clients, and stakeholders. A people person who loves working for a community-based, grassroots organisation, you are:
The Digital Literacy Foundation invests in the development of all its team members. You can expect to have access to opportunities to develop professionally, and to be challenged through your daily work. We proactively offer support in the face of any challenges that may arise and encourage the development of passion projects, both internally within the organisation, and across your life.
We try to ensure our work generates welcome, inclusive, safe, and creative community environments for all, and we pride ourselves on providing a working environment that is both driven and ambitious and caring and kind.
We offer a free, confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) aimed to enhance the emotional, mental, and general psychological wellbeing of our employees.
At the Digital Literacy Foundation, all employees are encouraged to be themselves and to bring their whole selves to work every day. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, people living with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse people and people of the LGBTQI+ community, including transgender, gender diverse, and intersex people.
The Digital Literacy Foundation has a commitment to maintain a diverse workforce and welcomes the opportunity for applicants to share their lived experiences. We also recognise that some applicants may not wish to disclose, and we respect their decision.
We serve culturally and linguistically diverse communities in Australia, and value intercultural expertise, diverse ways of thinking and the ability to work in more than one language.
