  • Engagement Type: Four-month fixed term contract, 20 hours per week 
  • Salary range: $50 - $60 per hour (depending on experience)

About the Organisation:

Diversity ACT is a community based, registered charity, run by volunteers that provides a Community Pride Hub in Kambah, support networks and weekly groups, social events, coffee n chat drop in, Pride Grows Garden, advocacy, Spectrum Lending Library, referral and resources to assist the LGBTIQ+ community of the ACT region focusing on Southside areas.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and community-focused individual to join our team as a Project Officer. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with our volunteers and committee to coordinate initiatives, provide essential support, and ensure alignment with Diversity ACT’s goals and national standards.

Your work will directly impact the lives of LGBTIQA+ individuals, Queer youth and Trans and Gender Diverse folk of all ages by strengthening volunteer programs, expanding outreach, and delivering meaningful community support services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate recruitment, training, and mentorship programs to empower volunteers and enhance their engagement and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with partners to deliver workshops tailored to the LGBTIQA+ community's needs, focusing on mental health, legal rights, and advocacy.
  • Implement strategies to connect with marginalized individuals and strengthen relationships with schools, health services, and community organizations.
  • Build sustainable systems to improve service delivery, volunteer retention, and fundraising efforts.
  • Conduct Awareness and Inclusion Foundation Training
  • Track outcomes, collect feedback, and prepare reports to evaluate program success and impact.

About You

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with volunteer coordination, program management, or community engagement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to design and deliver training programs or workshops.
  • Knowledge of the LGBTIQA+ community and the challenges they face.
  • Grant writing or fundraising experience.
  • Tertiary or TAFE qualifications in community services or a related field are required.
  • Lived experience will also be considered as a valuable asset.

Equivalent professional experience working in a related field for a period of five years will also be considered.

  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Check ACT (WWVP)

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement (NSVI) and National Volunteer Strategy (NVS).

Please note, the successful candidate will be an independent contractor, working on a four month fixed term contract for 20 hours per week.  As such, the successful candidate will require a current Australian Business Number (ABN).
