The Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) is an independent statutory office accountable to the Victorian Parliament which has been established to protect the rights and enhance the position of people with disabilities in Victoria. The Advice and Response Program is a key OPA program and currently comprises the Intake and Triage, Advice and Education, Investigations, Safeguarding and Individual Advocacy and the Medical Treatment Decisions teams.
As an Advice Officer you will provide high quality general advice and information in relation to guardianship and administration, medical treatment decision making, enduring powers of attorney, the role of VCAT and the Public Advocate, and services provided to persons with disability, via telephone, email and in person to people with disability, their friends, families and carers, as well as to health and other professionals and community members.
This position is in the Advice Service and forms part of a small team of Advice Officers within the Advice and Response Program.
The Advice Service responds to over 10,000 calls a year from persons with disability, their friends, family members, service providers, professionals and community members on a diverse range of issues relating to disability and advocacy.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include reference checks, national police checks and misconduct screening.
