The role of Legal Practice Director exists to establish and enable a company culture which will deliver on the objects of the company:
- to assist people with disabilities and their families to plan for the future, assert their rights and access justice;
- to support the work of Mamre by furthering the access and support of people with disability and their families with complementary legal and advocacy services
- to be a community legal centre.
The opportunity

We provide Trusts and Estates Planning for people with disability who do not have capacity to manage their own assets. This help people with a disability manage their finances and it establishes financial safeguards that minimise exploitation and financial abuse.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Legal Practitioner to head up our Company and be the main Estate Planning Lawyer.
This dynamic person will deliver positive outcomes in the growing business by:
- providing complex advice to people with a disability and their families, while overseeing advice and reviewing the file work of more junior members of the team
- providing an outstanding level of service and preparing accurate documents will be complemented by your ability to demonstrate empathy for clients who may be experiencing significant challenges
- using active listening skills, time management and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high volume environment to balance competing client needs with process and to identify and act upon urgent matters. You will work within a close knit and collaborative team and will contribute constructively to our supportive team environment
- conducting legal research and prepare high level legal and related policy advice on matters relating to (but not limited to) estate planning, human rights and discrimination law.
- building strong relationships with clients, providing updates and options within a timely manner, ensuring a positive client experience
- representing DLQ at court, tribunals, meetings and seminars as required.
- maintaining office standards for timeliness, confidentiality and matter management.
What you’ll need
- Legal qualifications and current principles practicing certificate.
- Minimum of five years post admission experience as a lawyer or equivalent experience.
- Passion for providing quality estate planning services to people with a disability and their families.
- Well-developed technical skills in Estate Planning & Succession Law
- Demonstrated ability to conduct (or assist in the conduct of) litigious matters, prepare high level legal submissions and act as advocate or instructing lawyer in legal proceedings before superior courts.
- Demonstrated oral, written and organisational skills of a high order.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work efficiently and effectively within, and contribute creatively to, a small team.
Desirable:
- Providing legal advice to people with disability and their families.
- Human Rights & Anti discrimination experience
- Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research and provide accurate, high level legal and policy advice in a timely and efficient manner.
