The Department of Communities Tasmania invites applications from highly motivated psychologists to work as part of the Tasmanian Autism Diagnostic Service.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Salary: $ 94,469.00 to $ 105,158.00 per annum + 10% Superannuation
  • Classification: Allied Health Professional, Level 3
  • Permanent full-time day work commencing ASAP. Part-time hours will be considered.
  • Fixed term day work for 3 years, commencing ASAP
  • Location: HDCS - Disability and Community Services, Tasmanian Autism Diagnostic Service – State-wide

About the Team

We are a community-based service providing evidence-based, comprehensive, independent diagnostic assessments for children and young people suspected of having autism spectrum disorder (ASD). As a psychologist working with our service, you’ll undertake autism diagnostic assessments in a supportive team environment.

About you

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Understanding and knowledge of contemporary approaches to autism diagnostic assessments and clinical interventions for people on the autism spectrum
  • High level written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain relationships with children, their families, and (relevant) stakeholders
  • Demonstrated workload management strategies, with the ability to handle shifting priorities
  • Value working collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Ability to be adaptable, creative, and flexible in your thinking and problem solving

Duties

  • Undertaking independent comprehensive evidence-based autism diagnostic assessments, for children and young people up to 18 years across Tasmania
  • Providing a comprehensive written report on the outcome of the autism diagnostic process including recommendations which provide an individualised plan and recommendations that meet the identified needs of the child and family
  • Provision of evidence-based information and referral to community and specialised services deemed appropriate and relevant for children and their families

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

All positions with the Department of Communities Tasmania are required to undertake a pre-employment Conviction Check. In addition, this position has the following essential requirements:

  • Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children (Vulnerable People) Registration (Employment type)
  • Identification check
  • Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable: Current Driver’s Licence, Training in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule and/or Autism Diagnostic Interview.
