Greatness starts here - About the Mens Behaviour Change Program

A men’s behaviour change program (MBCP) is a program for men wanting to end their use of controlling and abusive behaviours in their relationships.

There are four distinct service elements in DPV Health’s Mens Behaviour Change Program:

  • A 20-week group program for men using a Dialectical Behaviour Model
  • A case management program for up to six months providing weekly individual support to men
  • A 12 week group program available to men six months or more after graduating from the 20 week group program
  • Family safety contact work offering support to women who have been in a relationship with the man in the past two years

About the opportunity:

The position sits within the Mental Health, Family Violence, Communities and Families Directorate. The role of group facilitator is integral to program and specifically creates a space to:

  • Encourage men to take responsibility for their use of family violence
  • Provide an opportunity for men to explore attitudes and beliefs that may influence their use of violence
  • Increase men’s understanding of the impact of their use of family violence on their partners and/or children
  • Teach men skills to manage their emotions, distress and interpersonal effectiveness
  • Assist men in making changes towards developing safe and respectful relationship with their partners and children.

The Facilitator offers a specialist response including comprehensive assessment, risk management, facilitation of weekly groups. In this role, you will demonstrate the following.

  • Proven capacities to work effectively with people impacted by family violence, including male perpetrators of violence;
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct risk assessments using the MARAM framework and safety planning for women and children and understanding of the FVISS and the CISS.
  • Experience in facilitating groups where there is varying client engagement
  • A good understanding of non-collusive practice and gendered context of family violence
  • An understanding of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy or a preparedness to undertake training
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • A preparedness to work within an evidence based framework and commitment to evaluation
  • A sensitivity to and understanding of clients’ needs from diverse backgrounds.

  • Working with Children’s Check (WWCC)
  • Victoria Police Check
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License
  • Hold a Bachelor of Social Work, Eligible for membership of AASW OR at least 5 years relevant experience and be working towards meeting recommendation 209 – social work degree
