OUR TEAM

Dr Cohn is one of seven Greens MPs in the NSW Parliament. The successful applicant would join her current team consisting of a Policy and Parliamentary Advisor and Office Administrator / Executive Assistant. Before her election to Parliament in March 2023, Dr Cohn was a country GP and frontline emergency services volunteer. You can read more about Amanda here.

THE POSITION

  • Hours: 0.6-0.8FTE (3-4 days per week) depending on skillset and including some evenings and/or weekends
  • Remuneration: Pro-rata $93,745-$106,025 p.a. (depending on qualifications and experience)
  • Location: Based at NSW Parliament in Sydney CBD, with flexible working arrangements considered by negotiation. Occasional travel within NSW.
  • Contract: Permanent role with 6 month probationary period. Start date 10th March; this is negotiable for the right candidate.

This is a dynamic and varied role, including (but not limited to), drafting communications materials and visual assets, liaising with media and generating media coverage, producing social media content, website management, developing and managing stakeholder relationships, and some administrative tasks.

Parliamentary or political experience is not essential, but you should have experience communicating on progressive politics and policy.

SELECTION CRITERIA

You will be someone who:

  • Can proactively create compelling stories and media opportunities, while responding to media inquiries and emerging issues
  • Has experience writing engaging, persuasive and mobilising copy (eg. e-blasts, blog posts)
  • Has a strong ability to develop engaging social media content and manage Amanda’s online presence across a variety of platforms
  • Has demonstrated experience using technology including graphic design and video editing tools
  • Has demonstrated experience or interest in activism and/or community campaigns, particularly for social and environmental justice
  • Has the ability to work positively as a member of a small team including demonstrated initiative, collaborative work practice and capacity to work unsupervised, manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Is committed to Greens principles of social and economic justice, ecological sustainability, peace and disarmament, and grassroots participatory democracy

Non-essential skills looked upon favourably:

  • Experience in, or demonstrated understanding of one or more of the following policy areas: Health including mental health, local government, youth, LGBTQIA+, emergency services, sport and recreation, waste, air quality, or the regions of Riverina Murray, Central West or Far West NSW
  • Understanding of NSW and Australian political issues and the political system
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-pressure professional environment
  • Proficiency with photography and videography
  • Ability to ensure communications are inclusive and considerate of the needs and perspectives of diverse communities
