DRC is funded to provide individual advocacy for adults with disability in Greater Melbourne and hosts a network connecting people with disability across Victoria. THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Administration and Communications Officer to join our team. The Administration and Communications Officer is committed to achieving positive social change and improved access and equality for people with disability.
This is a varied role that includes providing governance support to DRC’s Board, creating and editing content for social media platforms, and providing administrative support for DRC’s team.
DRC is a dynamic organisation that is going through a time of great change. Within this role there are opportunities that can be adapted to suit the applicant's particular strengths and skills. Some governance related experience is essential.
The position is classified at 2.3 in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010. In addition to salary and superannuation we can offer leave loading and salary packaging options which increase your take home pay.
Governance and Administration
A key part of this role is to provide governance and administrative support to DRC’s Board. This includes:
- Scheduling board and subcommittee meetings
- Preparing meeting agendas and relevant meeting papers for Board and Subcommittees.
- Ensuring board and subcommittee meetings have reliable records of decisions and actions that are maintained through complete and accurate preparation of minutes
- Supporting the Executive Officer and Board with meeting DRC’s governance, compliance and reporting obligations, to achieve minimum accountabilities and execute their oversight responsibilities.
Communications
- Creating and publishing content for DRC’s social media platforms.
- Creating and distributing information to DRC’s members
Administrative Support
Providing a variety of routine and ad-hoc administrative support to the DRC Team, this includes but is not limited to:
- Coordination of invoices
- Maintaining and updating the members list and mailing lists
- Booking and coordinating meetings at Ross House including catering and arranging AV equipment
- Managing the general inquiries mailbox, distributing and actioning as required
- Stationery and office supplies inventory management
- Supporting the Executive Officer with reviewing and updating of DRC’s policies and procedures
- Ensuring procedures and templates are maintained and up to date
- Providing administrative support to the Advocacy Team where needed
General
- Work collaboratively with DRC’s team and the DRC Board.
- Demonstrate a high level of personal integrity and professionalism.
- Other duties as directed by the Executive Officer which may be required to achieve organisational or position specific objectives.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:
- Identify as a person with disability.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the issues and challenges relevant to people living with all disabilities.
- At least 1-2 years experience in a governance support role.
- Intermediate MS Office application skills (including Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational, time management and prioritising skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse stakeholders and communities
- Ability to multi-task in order to complete a range of administrative tasks
- Capacity to implement administration procedures and instructions, document control and records management systems and processes.
- Ability to work both individually and within a team environment and contribute to the larger organisation vision and purpose.
- A commitment to respectful communication with people living with a disability who may have diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people with complex needs including mental health.
Desirable:
- Experience in social media management and content creation.
- Experience with policy writing and development.
- Practical knowledge of the disability advocacy sector.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs and issues affecting people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities and/or First Nations Communities, and/or the LGBTQIA+ community and/or other minorities.
- Experience in supporting people with communication support needs would be valuable.
