Disability Resources Centre Inc (DRC) is a values-led advocacy and campaigning organisation. As a radically inclusive Disabled People’s Organisation we work towards our vision of a world built on disability justice and disability pride.

DRC is funded to provide individual advocacy for adults with disability in Greater Melbourne and hosts Belong, a network connecting people with disability across Victoria and nationally.

The team also works to tackle systemic barriers and conducts and supports campaigns that aim to provide long-term benefits for the disability community.

THE ROLE

The Belong Program Officer is an important role within DRC. It is designed to provide administrative and membership support to DRC’s Belong Network. You will be part of an experienced and dedicated team working to achieve high quality outcomes and improve access, equality and inclusion for all people with disability.

DRC is a dynamic organisation that is going through a time of great change. Within this role there are opportunities that can be adapted to suit the applicant's particular strengths and skills.

The position will be classified at 4.3 - 5.3 dependant on experience, in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award 2010. In addition to salary and superannuation we can offer leave loading and salary packaging options which increase your take home pay.

Program Support and Development

  • Work with the team to disseminate publicity about the program through all communication and media channels.
  • Coordinate welcome and induction for new members.
  • Schedule and coordinate one to five network meetings each week.
  • Facilitate group meetings as required.
  • Maintain processes for continual program evaluation
  • Assist with providing content for socials channels
  • Moderate discord platform and whatsapp groups as required
  • Undertake some regional-based travel to grow the program in rural and regional areas.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Identify as a person with disability - this is a mandatory requirement
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the issues and challenges relevant to all people living with disability and a demonstrated commitment to disability rights, justice and inclusion.
  • Tertiary qualification in the social sciences, community development, psychology or equivalent life/work experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to use those skills to negotiate and recruit.
  • Social media management experience.
  • Confident group facilitation skills, particularly in relation to meeting online.
  • Demonstrable experience of accommodating a range of access needs within one setting, and of ensuring that all messaging is accessible.
  • Experience in a volunteer management role would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work well in a team and contribute to the larger organisational vision and purpose.
  • Computer literacy using Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel)
