The Social Security Debt Policy team is looking for a passionate and experienced Assistant Director to contribute to the development of a fair and effective system for managing social security debts. Most Australians will engage with the system over their life, and the Social Security Debt Policy team plays a critical role in shaping their experience. Our work directly impacts the lives of millions of people, ensuring the integrity of the social security system while providing pathways to resolve debts in a timely, fair and respectful manner.
As an Assistant Director, you will be responsible for supporting the team deliver on its priorities, including:
The role will allow you to expand your key skills in policy development, stakeholder management, ministerial briefing and legislative interpretation. Improving the management of social security debt is one of the key priorities of the Department. The team works on high-profile work with momentum and potential to make a real difference to the lives of the most vulnerable people in our community. You’ll work alongside a supportive team of professionals dedicated to improving the social security system.
The role includes supervising junior members of the team and supporting them to achieve goals and develop their professional skills. We particularly welcome applications from those who can leverage their own experiences of Australian Government services or their experiences of engaging with vulnerable communities to inform debt policy. Debt policy is also informed by analysis of large administrative data sets and complex legislation and supporting policy. We welcome applications from people with skills and experience working with data and legislation.
