The Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS) is looking for a Policy and Communications Officer to help generate change and guide systemic reform to prevent and improve responses to domestic and family violence.

DVCS is a non-government, not-for-profit specialist domestic and family violence service that seeks to reduce violence and abuse in relationships. DVCS provides crisis and long-term support services to help break the domestic and family violence cycle. DVCS is here to support people, both during and after crisis situations as well as support programs for those who use violence, with the aim of bringing about change.

DUTIES
The Policy and Communications Officer role includes:
- Develop submissions into inquiries both within the ACT and Nationally, including consultation with DVCS staff and external partners
- Provide briefings to support CEO participation in key meetings, forums and advocacy opportunities
- Develop, edit and share communications materials, including newsletters, social media content and media releases
- Support DVCS advocacy campaigns, including around the ACT Budget, elections and reform processes
- Support DVCS events and community engagement activities that align with advocacy and communication priorities
- Identify and support the development of responses to tenders and grant opportunities
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required
- Develop key relationships with ACT peak bodies, research institutions and partner agencies to pursue joint advocacy goals
SELECTION CRITERIA
All applicants must meet and address the following Selection Criteria in writing.
- Relevant qualifications in Law, Social Science, Political Science, Communications, Media, Social Work or other relevant qualifications or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of domestic and family violence and its impact across the community, or the ability to quickly obtain this knowledge.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare documents in a range of formats, including submissions, briefings, policy papers, fact sheets and case studies.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and use initiative
- Able to prioritise competing tasks and ensure deadlines are met and expectations managed when issues arise
- Able to work in a diverse team of people across a range of programs with a focus on developing and maintaining a growth mindset regarding personal development and service provision
- Demonstrated commitment to the values of equity, inclusion and diversity.
- Current ACT Working with Vulnerable People Card.
- Current driver’s licence.
