Job description

If you have a Science / Environmental background, EE can offer a rewarding opportunity to join our growing firm based in Woonona, NSW.

The environmental consultant (EC) is required to assist with a range of tasks in soil and water sciences. This may include field work, sample collection, preparation and submission to laboratories, data entry, data presentation, statistical analysis of data, creating two-dimensional scaled drawing (for detailed design) and liaise with EE staff to ensure quality standards and turn-around times are met.

Key accountabilities

Fulfil the technical capabilities required for one or more of the following: receipt of soil and groundwater samples, testing of samples, care and maintenance of soil coring equipment.

  • Confirm identity of samples and ensure correct samples match laboratory submission form
  • Ensure integrity of data which is accurate and objective
  • Ensure site layout plans are representative of site and comply with relevant standards and guidelines
  • Monitor workload and contribute to the efficient running of EE
  • Log in project times through project management software
  • Assist with the maintenance of the quality systems to meet high requirements as applicable
  • Promote and maintain a safe work culture in the field and office
  • Assist professional staff with sample collection and report writing

Job requirements

  1. You need to be the type of person who is well organised and get joy out of getting things done. Every day, you will discuss with the team leader the tasks which are needing completion.
  2. At times you will be in the field (sometimes amongst livestock), under the elements (hot, cold wet), jumping barbed wire fences, getting your hands dirty, and lifting heavy tools around 10 % of the time and for the remaining 90 % you’ll be assisting with the technical components of our services.
  3. Expert at desktop programs such as MS excel, MS word, MS outlook, Adobe Professional, Google Earth and image editing programs (e.g. GIMP, Inkscape)
  4. Knowledge or ability to learn 2-D drawing programs (e.g., Auto Cad or QCAD).
  5. You need to be a person who pays attention to detail and quality. Small things matter. We want you to be meticulous in your work. We are looking for a good, fun person, who gets stuff done.
  6. You will require excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to provide us practical examples on how you will achieve this.
  7. Ability to travel interstate with one or two-night duration remote stay
  8. Ability to work autonomously
  9. Be punctual and on-time
  10. Having your own transportation is highly desirable

Skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or related discipline
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must hold a current NSW driver’s license
  • Strong organisational skills and proactive attitude
  • Efficient and motivated
  • Must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team
