ABOUT THE ROLE

You will provide overall community based coordination and leadership of Youth, Sport, and Recreation (YSR) activities, guided by community priorities, and supporting the strategic direction of East Arnhem Regional Council.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

Demonstrated prior experience in youth work, community development, sport and recreation, events management, working with First Nations communities, or other related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess program capacity, and strengthen service over time.
  • Have a knowledge of and commitment to apply a strengths based and community development approach, including working within an Indigenous cultural framework.
  • Strong organisational skills including ability to effectively manage time between service delivery, team mentoring, facility / asset maintenance and administrative tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including high level written and oral communication, mediation and negotiation skills.
  • Adaptable and resilient, with the ability to live, work and thrive in complex cross-cultural environments.
  • Strong cross-cultural awareness, respect, and understanding of First Nations people and their history.
  • Must hold a current and valid C Class Driver’s Licence with the ability to driver a manual transmission vehicle.

IT WOULD BE DESIRABLE IF YOU ALSO POSSESSED:

  • Previous experience living in a remote First Nations community.
  • Remote four-wheel drive experience and training.
  • Trauma informed care and youth case management.

The preferred applicant must be prepared to travel and work for short periods in remote communities by various means, including boat and light aircraft.

The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a Criminal History Check and obtain a Working with Children Clearance. Criminal history will not exclude an applicant unless it is relevant to the position.

WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN

Full time permanent employment receiving a Level 6 salary of $87,190 - $92,500 (excluding super and locality allowance) per year, with annual wage increase opportunities built into our EBA. You will also benefit from 6 weeks of annual leave with 17.5% leave loading. Housing will be provided in Umbakumba Community. Relocation and repatriation assistance will also be provided to the successful applicant.
