We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services, including maternity, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, community health and state-wide specialist services to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age, socio-economic status, population and healthcare needs.

About the role

This role support patients who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer/Questioning, Asexual, Non-Binary, Gender Diverse, and/or Pansexual (LGBTIQA+), along with their families and carers. This role fosters an environment of inclusion and acceptance, ensuring excellence in patient care and support. Best suited for a Registered Nurse, Social Worker, or Allied Health professional.

This is a pivotal role in raising awareness of issues faced by LGBTIQA+ patients, including how to sensitively identify and address barriers that prevent them from accessing services.

The role collaborates with treating teams to provide cultural, emotional, and social care, ensuring safe and respectful support for discharge into the community. This position operates across multiple Eastern Health sites and services, including Emergency Departments, inpatient and outpatient services, and community outreach.

About you

To be successful in these roles you will possess:

  • Clinical qualification and registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, or, if a non-registered profession, eligibility for membership of professional association, where relevant.
  • Strong understanding of LGBTIQA+ community
  • Specialist knowledge in LGBTQIA+ health
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in acute and subacute services and in multi-disciplinary models of care
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective and appropriate therapeutic relationships with clients and families
  • Lived experience, particularly those with experience or understanding of intersectional identities, including LGBTIQA+, Aboriginal and CALD people with disability (desirable)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • A current drivers’ licence
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policy directions (desirable)
  • Experience in presenting education, professional development training (desirable)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the LGBTIQA+ community, Community Services sector and capacity to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders
