About Energy Consumers Australia (ECA)

Energy Consumers Australia is the national voice for residential and small business energy consumers. We’re a small independent organisation with a big impact.

The energy transition is one of the biggest challenges and opportunities for households and small businesses, and you will be at the heart of it. By amplifying the voice of consumers and influencing decision-makers, you will help ensure the best outcomes for everyone as Australia switches to net zero.

ECA has unique access to all players in the energy sector, including federal and state ministers, energy regulators as well as other advocates for consumers. We are committed to bold ideas, expert analysis and faultless execution, and if you feel the same way, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role

As Executive Manager, Advocacy and Policy, you’ll lead strategic advocacy on energy policy issues that impact consumers. You’ll manage key projects, shape policy positions, and represent ECA in critical discussions.

We are seeking to fill two Executive Manager roles. One of them will have a key focus in driving reforms to strengthen consumer protections in the energy sector.

Who you are

You’re a strategic thinker and expert communicator, passionate about consumer rights, the energy transition, and public policy. You thrive working on complex issues, building strong relationships with stakeholders, and leading high-impact advocacy efforts.

To be successful in the role, you will:

  • Lead policy advocacy across a range of topics, focused on delivering several objectives that help achieve the seven targets – equity, value, agency, ownership, control, justice and representation – in our three-year plan.
  • Deliver high-quality projects and initiatives with clear impact.
  • Engage with stakeholders, build relationships and collaborate with regulators, government bodies and industry leaders.
  • Drive innovation and analysis by monitoring trends, conducting research and formulating expert policy advice.
  • Lead and guide a team, including mentoring, delegation and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Knowledge & background

  • Of the two advertised roles, one will require deep understanding of consumer protection frameworks, ideally including Australian Consumer Law and the National Energy Customer Framework.
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, economics, engineering, public policy, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Energy sector knowledge preferred– a passion for public policy and consumer advocacy is essential!
  • We welcome people of diverse genders, ages, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, abilities, religions, and sexual orientations.
  • Right to live and work in Australia. A criminal background check will be conducted.

Additional benefits

  • Hybrid work model (3 days in-office, 2 days WFH)
  • 5 additional ECA leave days + 4 weeks annual leave
  • Sydney CBD (opposite Town Hall) or Melbourne CBD (near Central Station)
  • Access to world-class energy experts and career development
