About the Program

The Love Health Program at ECCQ is funded by Queensland Health to provide Blood Borne Viruses (BBV) & Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) prevention education and support services to people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, including migrants and refugees. Purpose of the position

The Chinese Bilingual Community Health Worker will provide BBV & STIs health promotion activities in the Chinese community and provide education, information and support to people diagnosed with viral hepatitis B and/or hepatitis C and their families. The successful applicant will work closely with the Management and Treatment Coordinator to assist in delivering an early intervention, peer-based model in South-East Queensland to support people diagnosed with viral hepatitis, with a focus on chronic viral hepatitis B, from the Chinese community.

Key responsibilities

• Establish, maintain and expand networks with Chinese community members and key stakeholders including Chinese speaking GPs, Chinese community leaders, members and people affected by viral hepatitis B and/or C from a Chinese background in Southeast Queensland.
• Organise BBV&STI education sessions focusing on viral hepatitis for the Chinese community including people affected by viral hepatitis B and/or C.
• Provide accurate BBV&STI information and support to people from the Chinese community who are affected by viral hepatitis B and/or C through a range of communication channels such as phone, email, face-to-face (individual or group), and social media.
• Organise and conduct health promotion activities for the Chinese community.
• Promote BBV&STIs messages through the Chinese media, including newspaper, radio, and social media.
• Participate in teamwork including health promotion events, particularly during World Hepatitis Day and World AIDS Day.
• Assist in delivering Fibroscan services including organising appointments, venues, and patient education.
• Assist in program resources development and management.
• Translate and check resources and information from English to Chinese.
• Participate in pilot projects, research or initiatives of the Love Program.
• Update and maintain the contents of the website.
• Attend training, team meetings, and other meetings as required.
• Collect and analyse evaluation data.
• Provide program administration support.
• Provide reports and documents as required.
• Strictly maintain the confidentiality of clients.

Selection Criteria

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of BBV and STI issues, in particular viral hepatitis in the Chinese community.
• Demonstrated good planning and organisational skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, including speaking, reading, and writing in English and Chinese.
• Demonstrated experience or ability to engage effectively with the Chinese community and relevant stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a small multicultural team, and to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability in using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Demonstrated ability to produce innovative solutions.
• A tertiary qualification in a health-related area is desirable.
• Work outside normal business hours if required (possibly weekends).
• Ability to work flexible hours if required.
• Intra-state travel if required.
• Australian citizen or hold a permanent residence visa or a valid working visa.
• Currently hold, or be eligible to obtain a Blue Card.
• Possess a current driver’s license in Australia and a vehicle with comprehensive car insurance.

About the job and benefits.

• 32.5 hours per week. Fixed term contract till 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension.
