Eco Barge are seeking someone to fill the new role of Volunteer Coordinator. This is a part-time position working closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure all activities for our four core projects are run professionally and safely as well as helping with the setup and launch of the new Education Centre.
Eco Barge Clean Seas Inc. is a not-for-profit environmental organisation established in Airlie Beach to engage the community to protect the marine life and aquatic environment of the Whitsunday region by:
- Removing marine debris to reduce its impacts
- Reducing land-based litter and littering behaviour to prevent the occurrence of local marine debris
- Recycling and transforming ocean plastics to reduce landfill
- Providing care for sick and injured marine turtles
Key responsibilities:
- Organising and running volunteer events such as Count and Sorts, Recycling activities and land-based clean-ups
- Boosting Eco Barge’s marketing and social media profile
- Cleaning of the centre and ensuring that it always looks presentable
- Organising the turtle carers roster and overseeing the running of the Whitsunday Turtle Rescue Centre
- Overseeing the setup and launch of the Eco Barge Education Centre
- Keeping the Eco Barge website up to date
- Office administration
- Project reporting
Selection Criteria:
- Relevant degree or qualification in environmental conservation or marine biology or something similar
- Have a current First Aid Certificate
- Confident and able on a boat
- Experience with digital marketing, design work and social media
- Positive social skills and ability to easily interact with all members of the community
- Outgoing and happy to conduct public speaking
- Passionate about protecting our oceans, the Great Barrier Reef and marine turtles
- Ability to work alone and within a team
- Have an eye for detail
- Exceptional knowledge of all Microsoft Office Programs
- Knowledge of Mailchimp and WordPress
- Ability in handling data with excellent communication and writing skills
- Have a reasonable level of fitness and able to walk easily on uneven beaches/rocks
- Have the right to work in Australia with no limits
