Eco Explorers Australia is a Melbourne-based company that runs outdoor programs for children and families all across Melbourne and on the Mornington Peninsula.

We deliver quality, play based outdoor learning programs and this position is a unique opportunity to make meaningful differences to the well-being and mental health of children and families while connecting them to nature and a welcoming community. Our playgroups provide a safe place for parents to connect with one another as well as opportunities for children to play and interact with other children.

Eco Explorers Australia has a strong commitment to sustainability and the environment and recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People as the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet.

Once you have been allocated an outdoor location approx 30 mins from home), you will allocated set days and hours to work, which means your hours/days stay the same each term. You will also work with the same groups and families, so you can build long lasting relationships with the families you work with.

During your playgroup sessions, you will be required to share songs, stories, craft activities and lead a bush walk with your families.

As a Bush Playgroup Facilitator, you understand the benefits of nature play in early childhood and are passionate about building strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and the children and families you work with.

You will also have a genuine interest in the environment, the flora and fauna and want to learn about it, alongside the children you work with.

Current positions (to start TRAINING in term 1 – 2025).

Bush Playgroup Facilitator - (Macedon Ranges) - work 2 - 3 days a week.

We are looking for a passionate nature play facilitator. Full training provided.

  • Bush Kids facilitator - Western suburbs (Newport, Brimbank and Mount Macedon) - We are seeking an experienced early childhood educator, teacher, environmental educator or other who has some bush skills and environmental knowledge in delivering nature based programs to children in some capacity and knowledge about the outdoor environment.
  • Ricketts Point Beach Playgroup Facilitator to work approx. 2 mornings (12 hours) a week at Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary in Beaumaris. This role would suit an early childhood editor or someone who has some knowledge and in marine biology or a good understanding of local marine life.
  • South-Eastern Melbourne suburbs to work approx. 2 - 3 mornings a week (13 hours). Some possible locations include Braeside Park, Seaford, depending on the applicants location. We are seeking an experienced early childhood educator, teacher or environmental educator who has some skills and knowledge in delivering nature based programs to children in some capacity and knowledge about the outdoor environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate child-led bush programs for children aged 0 – 5 years
  • Facilitate positive and developmentally appropriate play experiences and interactions within the Eco Explorers Australia policies and guidelines
  • Ensure the highest levels of health and safety are implemented and maintained at all times during your programs
  • Practice culturally sensitive and inclusive practices to enhance engagement of families in programs and services
  • Develop connection with children, nurturing their curiosity and expanding their skillset and overall development
  • Provide administrative and marketing support

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED:

  • Experience working with preschool-aged children is highly regarded
  • Knowledge/understanding of the developmental needs of pre-school aged children
  • Have well-developed communication and empathy skills and be able to remain calm in all types of scenarios
  • Be self-motivated and highly organised
  • Environmental / outdoor ed / bush knowledge and skills to share with the families
  • Have or be willing to undertake a First Aid and CPR certification
  • Current Australian drivers licence and a car
  • Working with Children’s Check and a Police check
  • Be physically fit
  • Qualifications (although not necessary) in either; Early Childhood Education, Teaching, Outdoor Education, Environmental Science, Forest school, Community Services or skills in any bush craft/bush survival skills, art and mindfulness will also be highly regarded.

Full training will be provided.

This job would be ideal for people who may be studying or want to work around the school drop off and pick up times.
