about Ecologic NRM

Ecologic NRM was established in mid-2024 by a team of professional environmental assessors with decades of experience working with national, state and local government agencies, port and waterway management authorities, private organisations and private landholders. The team’s decision to transition to a ‘Profit for Purpose’ model reflects their commitment to the environment and to actions that restore our landscapes, reduce carbon emissions and protect the ecosystems we all rely on.

About the Opportunity

Following strong growth since the establishment of the new organisation and the success of a recent large tender we are seeking to add a Senior Ecologist to our team to manage the end-to-end delivery of this Project. You will join a team of highly experienced botanists and spatial analysts to help deliver this project in 2025.

Ecologic NRM partner with a diverse range of stakeholders, while enjoying the support of passionate leaders, ongoing professional development opportunities, and all the resources you need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will drive delivery of the River-flat Eucalypt Forest Project and work collaboratively with the wider Ecologic NRM team on other projects.

  • Manage preliminary spatial analysis to develop an indicative distribution model for the community followed by ground-truthing across 30 modelled sites
  • Production of an infield identification guide, diagnostic key and management plan
  • The project will involve fieldwork of up to five days at a time throughout East Gippsland

Senior Ecologist

  • Collaborate on other Ecologic NRM projects and work with all members of the team
  • Provide ecological support on native vegetation assessments, offset site management and environmental values assessments
  • Provide mentoring support to trainees

What you will bring to Ecologic NRM (essential criteria)

  • Over six years’ professional experience with tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Proven skills in undertaking fieldwork in remote areas (roofed accommodation may not always be available).
  • Proven skills in ecological assessments, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, botanical survey, and vegetation management.
  • Proficiency in flora species identification ideally within a Victorian context, ecological vegetation class mapping, and identifying threats to ecological communities.
  • Understanding of Victoria’s Native Vegetation Regulations and policies.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to build rapport with stakeholders and partners. Excellent written skills and the capacity to work to deadlines.
  • A current full Victorian driver’s license and willingness to travel and work in remote areas.

We are happy to consider applications from people who can meet some or all of these criteria. While the River-flat Eucalypt Forest project is funded for 2025, we have the capacity to offer ongoing employment for someone seeking full-time employment (our preference); and are also open to employing two part-time staff members in a job share arrangement.

We are also open to receiving expressions of interest from anyone who is seeking casual employment, particularly from individuals who are accredited VQA assessors.

Ecologic NRM sits within the Ecolands Collective and is committed to returning profits to environmental projects. We are an equal opportunity employer and value a diverse workforce. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people of all identities.
