The Brief Intervention Eating Disorder Practitioner provides brief intervention, care navigation and group services to people with a range of eating disorders.

This position operates within a collaborative team environment that is responsive to service users' needs and committed to continuous improvement and best practice principles. The practitioner must also work within the Vision and Mission of Eating Disorders Queensland (EDQ) and contribute to organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Work in line with EDQ’s policies and procedures.
  2. Deliver a Brief Intervention to people with eating disorders from a multi-disciplinary approach underpinned by a feminist/social justice practice framework with an evidence-based understanding of the impact of eating disorders in work with adults, young people, and families, as well as working with related co-occurring mental health and social issues.
  3. Use Focussed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT) for bITE (Brief Intervention Therapy for Eating Disorders)
  4. Foster a collaborative culture committed to practising individual/team supervision, professional development, and professional ethics.
  5. Deliver therapeutic/ psychosocial groups.
  6. Provide initial phone assessments, information and referral services to clients, families, carers, professionals, and the broader community- The role has a Care Navigation Component
  7. Proactively communicate as a team member, contributing to shared work functions and team processes.
  8. Support the bITE Coordinator with reviewing, developing, and implementing policies and procedures, ensuring that new service models meet best practice standards and maximise available resources.
  9. Undertake data collection and analysis via client management systems to ensure continuous quality improvement, knowledge development and research, and regular reporting.
  10. Support innovative state-wide service delivery, including delivery of telehealth sessions for both individual and group work. This role will include frequent travel.
  11. Collaborate with the Care Navigator to manage client flow through the organisation.

Reporting Relationships: This position reports to the bITE Coordinator.

Supervise students and volunteers in line with university requirements and assigned projects.

Funding: All positions offered as a fixed term positions till the end of 2026

In COVER letter RESPOND to KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Tertiary Qualification: A degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling with specific training and experience in eating disorders is highly regarded but not mandatory.
  • Transferrable Skills to eating disorders work Ability to apply current skills to support individuals with eating disorders effectively.
  • Personal Recovery (If Applicable): Minimum of two years of stable recovery from an eating disorder.
  • Practice Framework Articulation: Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate and apply a personal practice framework in clinical settings.
  • Initial Contact and Assessments: Confidence and proficiency in conducting initial contact, intake, and assessments.
  • Client Management: Experience in managing client allocations based on triage and screening outcomes in collaboration with team coordinators.
  • Brief Interventions/Counselling Experience: Proven ability to provide brief interventions, with an understanding of eating disorders and co-occurring issues like mental health and substance use in adult, youth, and family contexts.
  • Care Navigation and Waitlist Management: Experience in care navigation and assisting clients through the recovery process, including waitlist management, to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Understanding of Evidence-Based Interventions: It is highly recommended that you have knowledge of and experience with psychological interventions, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
  • Group Facilitation and Psychoeducation Programs: Demonstrated experience in facilitating groups and developing/delivering psychoeducation programs.
  • Client Management Systems: Competence in using multiple client management systems, such as Csnet, rediCASE, and Cliniko.
  • Caseload and KPI Management: Ability to manage a balanced caseload, meeting KPIs while handling individual and group work.
  • Interpersonal and Engagement Skills: Strong interpersonal, emotional intelligence, and engagement skills, particularly in working with individuals affected by eating disorders.
  • State-Wide Service Delivery: Willingness to support innovative state-wide service delivery, with some interstate travel required.

Required:

  • Ability and willingness to travel across the specified working region as needed
  • Current (or be able to attain) Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and Disability Worker Screening (Yellow Card)
  • If applicable, registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. AASW, PACFA, AHPRA etc)
