We're seeking a dynamic leader to guide EAA into its next phase of growth. We’re looking for someone who can inspire Australians to donate more effectively and empower a thriving EA community. In this role, you'll:
Effective Altruism Australia’s (EAA) mission is to inspire and empower Australians to tackle the world’s most pressing problems. We do this by supporting Australians to donate to alleviate global poverty and tackle climate change, and by empowering the Australian Effective Altruism community.

As our new General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading EAA into its next chapter of growth, influence, and impact. This position offers you the opportunity to lead an organisation dedicated to achieving real-world impact through effective giving and growing the community of people passionate about doing good better.
Strategy Execution and Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of EAA’s 2025-2027 Strategic Plan. Lead and manage staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and purpose-driven culture.
Donor Engagement & Fundraising: Cultivate relationships with major donors and manage major gift campaigns to fund EAA’s initiatives. Identify and pursue funding opportunities, ensuring financial sustainability.
Community Development: Engage and support the Effective Altruism community in Australia by leading the team to foster connections, facilitate impactful events, and empower community members to take impactful action.
Public Engagement & Representation: Represent EAA in the public sphere, acting as a confident and articulate spokesperson for the organisation and its mission. Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including donors, partners, and the media.
Organisational Governance: Report regularly to the Board of Directors, ensuring compliance with governance, regulatory, and legal requirements. Maintain and champion best practices in organisational integrity and impact evaluation.
Management experience: At least 5 years’ experience leading a team or organisation. The role would suit candidates of a variety of educational backgrounds and degrees.
Organised and self-directed: You are highly dependable, capable of managing multiple priorities and independently driving projects with minimal oversight. Mature and calm under pressure.
External communications: Confidence in public speaking to larger groups, small groups and media. Ability to deliver EAA’s vision with clarity and persuasion.
Skilful stakeholder representative: Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire, and foster trust among stakeholders (including high-net-worth donors) to support EAA’s mission.
Alignment with mission and values: Understanding of and commitment to the principles of effective altruism and evidence-based philanthropy.
Location: Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane (preferred). Remote working arrangements may be considered for outstanding candidates.
FTE: The role will be tailored between 0.6 to 1 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE), depending on the candidate’s circumstances and qualifications.
