Our mission is to reduce the incidence of middle ear disease in Indigenous and at-risk children in Western Australia below the World Health Organisation benchmark of 4%. We will achieve this via our established Outreach programs, which demonstrate excellence in Aboriginal health.

Working in partnership with the CEO and Director of Clinical Services & Outcomes, the Health Educator/Nurse Manager will be part of the Earbus Management Team, leading a team of dedicated and professional Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. This role will work across our Perth Head Office and regional and remote sites in WA.

You will demonstrate excellence at managing and leading teams; socialising; helping others; and teaching. You will be exceptionally well organised; self-directing; and a systematic problem solver.

With proven experience in health promotion, your duties will include:

Health Education

  1. Assess the ear health education needs of the clients and communities we serve
  2. Develop programs and events to teach clients/families, schools/daycare and communities about ear health topics
  3. Create and distribute ear health-related posters, pamphlets, and other educational materials
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of Earbus educational programs and materials
  5. Advocate for improved ear health resources and policies
  6. Demonstrate simple procedures which caregivers may undertake between Earbus visits e.g. ear washes with tissue spears for 'wet ears'; nose blowing education for healthy ears; bicarb treatment for earwax; fever precautions for Acute Otitis media; dry ear precautions for post-op, protecting grommets or maintaining dry perforation prior to surgery
  7. Training or upskilling collaborative agency staff when required

Team Leadership

  1. Help Earbus Nurses function efficiently and effectively in an Outreach environment
  2. Supervise Earbus Nursing staff and ensure they are meeting personal and organisational KPIs
  3. Collect and analyse data to learn about their ear health audience and improve programs
  4. Working with Earbus Nurses to ensure families attend hospital surgical appointments
  5. Training new EFWA staff or upskilling staff as required
  6. Assisting Audiology, GP/NP and ENT staff as required to deliver effective services

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Nursing qualifications – Enrolled or Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner
  • AHPRA registration - current and continuing
  • Triple Vaccination and up-to-date vaccination compliance must be maintained
  • Working With Children Card
  • National Police Check
  • Senior First Aid
  • Current “C” class motor vehicle licence
  • Cultural Awareness Training
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently as required
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and PR skills
  • Proven ability for critical thinking and problem solving
  • Hand Hygiene Certification
  • Sound practical knowledge in computer literacy Microsoft Word and Excel Database
  • Travel to regional and remote communities is a requirement of this role

Desirable

  • Prior experience working within Aboriginal Australia
  • Previous experience working in remote communities
  • Working with children in an educational setting
  • Certificate 1V in Ear Health
  • Certificate 1V Training and Assessment
  • Community Health experience
  • Good understanding of record keeping, consent process and confidentiality (within Government legislated National Privacy Policy Principles)
  • 4WD experience or advanced driver safety course/experience
