About Elizabeth Morgan House

Elizabeth Morgan House Aboriginal Women’s Services Inc (EMHAWS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and have been in operation since 1976. EMHAWS takes direction and works consultatively with the community in all aspects of our services and have providing specialist family violence services for Victorian Aboriginal women and their children for over 40 years.

EMHAWS provide specialist Family Violence services, and central to our work and business is the aim to provide advocacy and support for the empowerment of Aboriginal women, children, young people and the wider community.

Position Overview

As the Intake and Triage Coordinator, you will be the first point of contact for Aboriginal women and children impacted by family violence and homelessness. You’ll play a vital role in assessing needs, providing crisis responses, and guiding clients to appropriate services both within EMHAWS and in the broader community.

You’ll use a culturally safe, trauma-informed approach to complete risk assessments, safety planning, and brief interventions. Your advocacy and support will help ensure women and children feel heard, respected, and empowered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to intake calls and referrals in a timely and respectful manner
  • Conduct MARAM-aligned risk assessments and develop safety plans
  • Provide brief intervention, referrals, and secondary consultations
  • Collaborate with internal teams to transition clients into case management
  • Maintain accurate case notes and reporting in line with organisational standards
  • Work in partnership with community services to ensure holistic support
  • Engage in supervision, reflective practice, and team development activities

Key Skills and Experience

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman (preferred)
  • Qualification in Social Work (or similar)
  • Experience in the Family Violence sector or with clients impacted by violence
  • Understanding of the impacts of family violence on Aboriginal women and families
  • Knowledge of the MARAM Framework and Information Sharing Schemes
  • Excellent communication, advocacy and collaboration skills
  • Strong organisational, reflective, and self-care practices
