Elizabeth Morgan House Aboriginal Women’s Services Inc (EMH) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that has been providing specialist family violence services for Victorian Aboriginal women and their children since 1976. We take a grassroots, community-driven approach to providing culturally safe, trauma-informed support services, including crisis accommodation, case management, and advocacy.
We are seeking a dedicated Therapeutic Counsellor to provide culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling services to Aboriginal women impacted by family violence. This role focuses on empowerment through a strengths-based approach, supporting women in decision-making and self-awareness while offering therapeutic interventions tailored to their unique needs.
Provide culturally safe, holistic, strengths-based, and trauma-informed counselling.
Deliver specialist therapeutic interventions, including:
One-on-one counselling sessions
Family counselling sessions
Group facilitation sessions
Conduct initial assessments to determine clients' immediate and medium-term needs.
Develop, implement, and monitor case plans to guide ongoing counselling and interventions.
Ensure high-quality risk assessments and develop thorough safety plans for Aboriginal women and children experiencing family violence.
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support clients' needs.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes and adhere to privacy and confidentiality requirements.
Participate in reflective practice, team meetings, and case management reviews.
Advocate for clients by establishing and maintaining effective relationships with partner agencies.
Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, or counselling.
Experience: Demonstrated experience in providing trauma-informed counselling to individuals affected by family violence or similar fields.
Skills: Ability to work creatively and flexibly with clients with complex needs.
Knowledge: Understanding of mental health, trauma, and their impact on individuals.
Collaboration: Experience in developing and facilitating therapeutic group programs.
Self-Management: Capacity for reflection and self-care in a high-demand role.
Current (or willingness to obtain) Working with Children Check.
Willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
Valid Victorian Driver’s License.
Compliance with EMH policies and procedures.
