Enhanced Care Association Inc. (ECA) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides overnight respite and day community access activities for participants with multiple and high complex needs.

Our respite house provides families much needed overnight respite and day community access programs. Currently only 15 families access our services and support workers become part of the participant's extended carer family.

The respite house is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 50 weeks of the year.

We are seeking a disability support worker experienced in complex, physical disability needs who is available throughout the 7 day week.

The Role

ECA provides day respite program, providing community access to participants, and an overnight respite program. During the nights up to three participants may stay at the house. During the day, up to six participants may be at the house.

All new support workers commence doing day shifts only. Day shifts are usually 5-10 hours in duration, and includes weekends.

Once a worker has received full training with each of our participants, new support workers may commence overnight shifts, if needed.

  • Day shifts can include: personal care, showering, meal times support, taking participant out to community activities or therapy. Ratio of support is 1:1 care and shifts include daily respite logs Each shift, support worker is rostered directly with one participant, but supports are provided within the house setting in a team environment.
  • Overnight shifts include: supporting up to three participants from 6pm to 6am, ratio 1:3. Overnight shifts include settling participants for bed, monitoring alert systems during the night, attending to participants during night time disturbance. On-call support is available. Overnight shifts only start once staff are fully trained and capable. Overnight shifts start 3pm and finish 9am the next morning.

In addition to providing direct supports to a participant, support workers will need to contribute to the general running of the house.

All shifts include some house duties such as meal preparation, house cleaning, preparing the bed for a participant, and laundry.

Skills and Qualifications Needed

  • Certificate 3 in Individual Support PLUS 1 year's experience in complex support work OR minimum of 3 years’ experience in high complex support work in the disability sector
  • Experience in use of hoists, shower aides, vehicle wheelchair lifts, and vehicle wheelchair restraints
  • Experience in PEG / catheter / bowel management
  • Experience administering medications
  • Experience completing daily logs and paperwork
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Current (or eligible for) a Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening card
  • A current, open drivers’ license.

Desirable

  • Experience providing care to participants with epilepsy
  • Experience driving a commuter bus (long body van)
  • Experience in PBSPs.
