About the role:

You’ll be a key member of our team responsible for supporting EPA investigations and criminal prosecutions. Your role will involve providing expert legal services and advice to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide authoritative legal advice on statutory investigative powers and confidently apply the law using EPA's regulatory powers.
  • Prepare and review briefs for criminal prosecutions, act as Solicitor on the record, and manage complex legal proceedings.
  • Represent EPA in court proceedings and provide strategic advice to investigators and regional operation staff.
  • Develop and implement legal policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with government regulations.

Skills and experience:

  • Tertiary degree and/or postgraduate qualifications in law, with admission to practice as an Australian legal practitioner.
  • Experience in providing authoritative legal advice and advocacy on criminal investigations and prosecutions, preferably within Government.
  • Sound knowledge of the law of evidence and legal procedures in Magistrates’ Court, County Court, and Supreme Court.
  • Strong understanding of governance principles, legislative processes, and judicial review.
