ABOUT US 

Epilepsy Tasmania provides services and support for people living with epilepsy and those who support them.  As the Tasmanian partner in the Epilepsy Smart Australia program,Epilepsy Tasmania is seeking to recruit a team member to join the National Epilepsy Support Service.  This is a virtual national team, with staff embedded within local state and territory organisations and reporting through to a national coordinator.

The National Epilepsy Support Service is the primary access point to the Epilepsy Smart Australia Program, providing consistent and evidence-based information, referral and support via multiple channels (phone, email or website). It is available to anyone living in Australia.

The National Epilepsy Support Service provides the latest information to help people understand and manage their epilepsy, tailored to their unique needs.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

As part the new Epilepsy Smart Australia Program, the National Epilepsy Support Service (NESS) you will be the first point of contact for our clients nationwide.

You will provide professional, caring and empathetic telephone-based support. With the knowledge you bring with you and then the knowledge gained about epilepsy, you will be able to identify callers needs and refer them to the appropriate service within the Epilepsy Smart Australia Service Delivery Partner.

In times of peak service demand this role also has responsibility for the provision of Comprehensive.

Support services for individuals requiring ongoing support. Key duties to perform will include:

  • Comprehensive, individualised and ongoing support to people with epilepsy across all ages and backgrounds, utilising the available best practice information, resources and guidelines
  • Support the development of Epilepsy Management Plans and Emergency Medication Management Plans,
  • Refer to and liaise with other agencies as relevant (i.e. mental health,  medical staff, employment support, disability services) and maintain timely and accurate records to reflect services provided and interactions with people living with epilepsy and their broader support networks.

The movement between the NESS Intake & Referral role and Comprehensive Support Services role will be coordinated through the NESS Coordinator and Epilepsy Tasmania Line Manager.

The role does require you to work 0.6 FTE on a rostered basis Monday to Saturday between the hours of 9.00am and 7.00pm AEST in the NESS role.

Based in our Launceston office, you will be part of a team dedicated to providing excellent support to the community as a whole and those with epilepsy. 

The NESS Team will consist of the NESS Coordinator and a National Team of NESS Workers.
