The Role

Equity Economics is an entirely remote, fast-growing economic development and social policy consultancy. We work with clients across Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations, international development programs and organisations, and a range of community organisations working to promote the voices of vulnerable people in Australia and across our region.

We’re keen to grow our influence and reputation and we’re looking for someone who can help us do it! The role provides an opportunity to shape our communications strategy, build our brand and work with leaders in the field of economic and social policy domestically and internationally.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Developing a communications strategy to build Equity Economics’ reputation among key stakeholders in Australia and the region.
  • Maximising the impact of our work through targeted communication of Equity Economics reports, analysis, policy input and commentary.
  • Overseeing management and updating of Equity Economics website and social media/digital platforms to ensure optimal visibility, useability and engagement.
  • Building and executing a thought leadership strategy for Equity Economics’ senior staff, including identifying opportunities for comments, pitching senior staff for media/speaking engagements around key issues and helping with preparation (including briefings, media training and speech writing).
  • Providing production support for podcast series for external clients including scheduling support, identifying and contacting guests, drafting questions, social media content and media outreach.
  • Where required, supporting clients to maximise their impact through targeted communications activities.

About you (Selection Criteria)

The successful candidate will possess some or all of the following qualifications and experience:

  • A passion for creating meaningful change in our communities and region
  • A desire for work-life balance and the ability to work from home (wherever in Australia that may be) with hours that best suit you
  • Bachelor’s or higher degrees in communications, media, journalism or a related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in designing and implementing communications and media strategies
  • Strong media relationships in Australia and the Pacific
  • Experience communicating economics, social justice, welfare and international development policy issues, preferably to government and private sector stakeholders
  • Experience creating digital content, including website and social media content, preferably with basic graphic design, video and audio production skills
  • Understanding of the communication needs and expectations of a range of government and non-government clients, and publics in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to write a range of communication materials, including press releases, reports and briefing material
