The Youth Community Liaison Advocate is responsible for establishing connections to communities and industries that support youth services in the Butler and Mirrabooka areas. The successful person will be required to work after hours on a regular basis and must hold a driver’s licence. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated exceptional skills and experience in strategic community engagement, evaluations, research, advocacy and coordinating community/industry events. Please note this role is 2 days a week with salary packaging.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advocacy and programming
- Provide quality support and services with a focus on social justice and building resilience for youth participants.
- Advocate on behalf of youth participants to create pathways into mainstream institutions such as sporting clubs and associations, schools, education and training institutions.
- Work with participants to develop suitable engagement strategies over the short and long term and monitor their progress by attending opportunities provided to them, as well as providing transport and other support where required.
- Provide leadership and career development activities which focus on goals of participant cohorts, such as improving job-related practical skills.
- Support the Youth Services Team Leader and Place Based Coordinators by supporting identified participants who require additional support.
Strategic Community Engagement and Events Coordination
- Demonstrated exceptional skills and experience in strategic community engagement and coordinating community/industry events.
- Have established connections with the CaLD and ATSI communities and industries that support youth services in the Butler and Mirrabooka areas.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of social media and public relations to increase participations, public awareness, and ways to attract hard to reach at-risk young people..
Partnership and team working
- Ensuring standardisation of practice and development of the advocacy service by attending and contributing to regular in-house practice sharing and meetings.
- Maintaining effective liaison with colleagues working across ERCWA and at external organisations including attending and participating in team meetings and other events including fundraising and training days.
- Practice compliance with all policies, record keeping requirements, checklist assignments, assigned documentation, and any other assigned duties.
- Networking and building relationships with external professionals and agencies.
Essential
- 2+years of relevant experience in developing rapport with disengaged and youth participants and their families.
- Demonstrated capacity to plan, schedule and meet agreed deadlines in the completion of duties.
- Demonstrated experience in providing leadership that will enable the effective coordination, development, implementation, provision, and evaluation of quality youth programs.
- A commitment to and experience in keeping children and young people safe
- Suitable qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services, Events, Public Relations, or other health-related qualifications (i.e. Social Work, Youth Work, Family Studies, etc.) and/or relevant experience
- Current WA Driver’s Licence.
- National Police Clearance.
- Working with Children Check.
- Australian Working Rights.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Empathy and sensitivity to the needs of staff, communities, and other stakeholders.
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to handle demanding situations and complaints effectively.
- An ability to network and bring together stakeholders and interested parties for effective program delivery, including the organisation of place-based reference groups to guide the delivery of the program.
