ABOUT THE ORGANISATION:

Rockhampton Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition. There are 22 Flexible Schools throughout Australia who offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling.

Enrolled young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs and FLCs respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.

The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training and social connectedness.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Kitchen Coordinator will report to the Head of Campus and is expected to work collaboratively with all staff and young people in the school.

The primary role of Kitchen Coordinator is a stand-alone role that will be required to prepare a menu, then to prepare and provide healthy meals to the young people.

Key Responsibilities include:

The Kitchen Coordinator's duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cook a healthy main lunch meal for approximately 100 people per day.
  • Provide a basic breakfast and morning tea.
  • Provide lunches for excursions and help staff plan for catering on campus.
  • Cater a few afternoon/evening events during the year.
  • Create a meal program and environment that is safe and welcoming for young people.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy kitchen.
  • Ensure the purchasing/ordering of ingredients and stock is in line with allocated budget
  • Daily use of technology for but not limited to, preparing meal plans, completing online grocery orders, checking emails
  • Share food preparation work with some of the young people to provide an opportunity for them to learn healthy food habits

ABOUT YOU

  • Understanding of and commitment to the values of a Catholic educational system of schools in the Edmund Rice tradition.
  • Qualifications and experience to successfully carry out the duties of Kitchen Coordinator
  • Willingness to engage in Professional Development and continued learning
  • Willingness and ability to cater for school events
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the preparation of meals in line with healthy eating guidelines (SMART CHOICES).
  • Knowledge of the use and care of equipment utilised in the preparation of school meals.
  • Current food handler certificate
  • Current first aid certificate or ability to obtain.
  • Current and valid Blue Card or the ability to obtain.
  • Current and valid Queensland Driver’s License.
