We are looking for dynamic, committed and values driven Directors to join the voluntary Board as it supports the organisation to pursue this critical mission.

About the role

You will be responsible for supporting the organisation to develop and oversee implementation of our ambitious vision. Working with Board colleagues, you will contribute expertise and advice to the CEO and senior leadership team across matters including operations, finance and risk, environmental challenges, governance, fundraising, communications and media, business and planning.

As a Board Director in an Incorporated Association, you will have legal responsibilities as outlined here. All EV Board members are covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance.

The Board delegates all management responsibilities to the Chief Executive Officer, who has wide management authority, which is limited and guided by the organisation’s policies, the Board and sub-committees of the Board.

We are recruiting to fill a number of vacancies on the Board and are particularly interested to hear from those with strong leadership and skillset in:

  • Community organising experience, with particular priority experience in EV’s local action network
  • People of diverse culture and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Fundraising and philanthropy expertise
  • Technical expertise in a field relevant to EV’s strategic priorities
  • Expertise in the fields of finance, audit and/ or risk management

We do not expect any Board member to have expertise in all of these areas. Prior governance experience is highly desirable but not essential.

We are committed to our social justice agenda and want our board to represent the communities we seek to work with including First Nations people and people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Therefore, we strongly encourage people of diverse gender, age, cultural and educational backgrounds to apply to join the Board.

Commitment

  • Directors are elected on a 2 year term, with a maximum of 3 terms. A minimum 2 year commitment is required.
  • Monthly time commitment varies from 4 - 12 hours per month, depending on scheduled meetings and matters at hand.
  • Regular Board meetings take place quarterly on a Saturday morning, for 4-5 hours.
  • Each Board member is expected to join at least one sub-committee. Committees meet 4-6 times per year, generally for 1 hour.
