Farm Raiser

Farm Raiser is a not-for-profit, grassroots urban farm in Bellfield, in north-east Narrm / Melbourne. We provide food relief and free educational and vocational programs for students with disabilities, all funded by selling our seasonal organic produce, on-site and to restaurants and grocery stores. Farm raiser is a 'third place' and we have strong ties to our neighbourhood and food and farming communities.

Join us every Tuesday from 8am to 12pm to help prepare our garden beds for new plantings and get fresh seedlings into the ground! This is a hands-on, physically active role where you'll be an essential part of our farm’s growing cycle.

What You’ll Do:

  • Hoeing, raking, and weeding to prepare garden beds
  • Using wheelbarrows to move compost and other soil amendments
  • Turning compost, broad-forking and improving soil health
  • Planting seedlings and learning about their care
  • Lifting, bending, and engaging in active farm work

What You’ll Gain:

  • A hands-on introduction to soil health, composting, and sustainable farming practices
  • Practical skills in tool use, seedling care, and farm work protocols
  • A chance to be part of a welcoming, community-driven urban farm
  • Free veggies! Take home a selection of fresh produce after your shift
  • Enjoy a well-earned morning tea break with coffee, tea, and fruit provided

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3-month commitment to join us every Tuesday from 8am-12pm
  • A high level of physical fitness—this is an active role with plenty of movement
(Looking for a lower-impact day? Join us on Fridays instead!)
  • No prior gardening or farming experience needed—just a willingness to learn and get involved!

Requirements

  • Covid-19 vaccination
  • Working with Children Check (you can apply for free if you list us as your organisation)
