Fighting Chance’s new accommodation enterprise puts people with disability and their families at the forefront of choice about how accommodation services are delivered. Set to expand rapidly over the next few years, our innovative model of supported independent living focuses on a person-centred, family governance model. At the core of this is the Family Governance Committee who collaborate with their team to ensure that true choice and control are prioritised for all housemates.

THE ROLE:

The Senior Support Worker is a key role, working in the house and with the House Manager to enable and empower housemates to live independently. The Senior Support Worker provides leadership and direction for the team of Support Workers, taking initiative and solving problems to ensure the housemates live fulfilling and supported lives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing in home support by assisting housemates at meal times, with personal care and administering medication
  • Supporting housemates to engage and participate in their community
  • Complete and enter any case notes for housemates you have directly supported into the Client Management System
  • Understanding of Health, Safety and Wellbeing practices
  • Driving and transporting housemates to appointments and activities
  • Participate in the supervision of Support Workers.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, reporting to the House Manager
  • Build professional and positive relationships with housemates and team members and be able to respond as directed to changes in housemates and organisational needs
  • Be on-call over weekends to manage problems as they arise.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication
  • An understanding of the principles of active and person-centred support (Training provided)
  • Have a passion for and 1-2 years’ experience working with people with disability
  • Experience leading a team and problem solving
  • Positive outlook and a willingness to learn
  • Developed initiative and problem solving skills
  • A qualification in disability/ community services (Desirable).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Flexibility to work morning, evening, weekend and sleepover shifts, with the ability to be on call
  • Have the right to work in Australia
  • NSW Drivers Licence
  • Possess or be willing to obtain a current satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate and Working with Children Check
  • Possess or be willing to obtain Provide First Aid (HLTAID003)
