Plus Clinical is the newest enterprise of Fighting Chance, consisting of a day program and a wraparound team of behaviour support practitioners supporting people with challenging behaviours to improve their quality of life and reach their goals. THE ROLE
Behaviour Support Practitioners at Plus are critical to improving the standard of behaviour support services to these individuals, and are crucial to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and their families. Behaviour Support centres around creating an understanding of people with disability that engage in challenging behaviour.
The Behaviour Support Practitioner’s aim is to create an understanding about a person and assist individuals, and their teams, to develop the skills (and create the environment) needed to no longer engage in challenging behaviour to have their needs met. They are responsible for helping a person’s support system (carers, services, staff) to identify the function of specific behaviours and to provide a consistent and positive approach to behaviour change in a written Behaviour Support Plan.
- The Practitioner undertakes functional assessments through interviews and observations, develops a Behaviour Support Plan and develops and provides training to the individual’s support team to implement the strategies in the plan, all meeting the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing meaningful relationships with participants and their families, carers and teams.
- Developing behaviour support plans with strategies for improving quality of life routed in positive behaviour support and trauma-informed approaches
- Conducting Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA) and writing Behaviour Assessment Reports (BARs)
- Effectively implement behaviour support, including training, data collection & debriefs
- Advocate for Participants using tools such as Plan Review Reports & Clinical Evaluation Assessments
- Role model and contribute to the development of positive behaviour support management within the sector
KEY QUALITIES
- Values-driven and positive with a passion for improving the quality of life for people with disability
- Demonstrated understanding of the NDIS and the needs of people with a disability.
- Understanding of working as a partner in the NDIA and NDIS planning processes.
- Understanding of positive behaviour support, mental health and trauma informed practice.
REQUIREMENTS
- NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner registration
- Possess the right to work in Australia
- Possess or willing to obtain the new NDIS worker screening check and Working with Children Check
- Possess a current unrestricted NSW driver's licence
