Purpose of the Position

The Waterway Coordinator is responsible for the management and delivery of projects and activities that monitor and enhance the water quality of waterways in the Fitzroy NRM region. The Coordinator is also responsible for expanding FBA’s knowledge of the potential erosion sites, water quality and reef science and the sediment and nutrient saving assessment tools required to estimate savings and cost effectiveness.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Waterway Coordinator will be accountable for:

  • Coordinating the identification, planning, design, delivery and monitoring of streambank and gully stabilisation projects.
  • Managing of all aspects of projects including compliance, planning, design, implementation, contractor management, monitoring and reporting.
  • Coordinating and providing technical extension services to land managers to improve adoption of best practice management of waterways and erosion control mitigation measures;
  • Supporting the transfer of technical and regional knowledge and skills throughout the organisation;
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with external delivery partners and organisations to achieve best practice outcomes;
  • Supporting the identification and pursuit of opportunities to collaborate with other organisations on waterway management services and erosion management services;
  • Contributing to the design of new programs and projects, including preparation of applications/tenders;
  • Supporting an organisation-wide collaborative approach to the exploration of new initiatives that align with and enable FBA to deliver on the FBA strategic plan and vision;
  • Undertake work in a manner that complies with FBA policies, procedures and values; and
  • Supporting the corporate strategy and vision of FBA.

Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary qualification or post-graduate training qualifications in Natural Resource Management, Science or Environmental Management or similar discipline is desirable. Demonstrated experience in project management community based natural resource management, particularly involving project management and civil construction would be highly regarded.

Other Requirements

  • The Waterway Management Coordinator will maintain their technical knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office software.
  • Possession of a current Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to travel and spend nights away from the home base to attend meetings, conferences and training.

Reporting and Supervision

This position reports to the Waterway Leader and supervises two Waterway Management Officers.

Salary, Superannuation and other benefits

The successful applicant will be offered a Contract of Employment consistent with the FBA Policies and Procedures and FBA salary framework. In addition to superannuation guarantee payments, FBA offers to match voluntary superannuation contributions by employees up to an additional 3% of salary.FBA is keen to work with arrangements that suit the right person/people for the job, and to that end, are willing to negotiate part-time arrangements, including job sharing. Daily hours of work are flexible, reflecting the need for the successful applicant to work hours that suit clients.

  • Technical knowledge and practical experience in soil conservation, gully erosion mitigation, and/or riparian and streambank restoration and management techniques.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and project management.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with experience in developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience in managing a team and staff supervision, including the management of staff to meet project deliverables while encouraging an environment which promotes personal growth.
