Purpose of the Position

The Waterway Leader is responsible for FBA’s delivery of waterway and gully stabilisation programs, projects and services. The Waterway Leader is also responsible for identifying and pursuing new delivery opportunities for sediment and nutrient savings in the Fitzroy.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Waterway Leader will be accountable for:

  • Leading the delivery of FBA’s waterway programs;
  • Ensuring the efficient and effective delivery and reporting of programs, projects and services in accordance with agreed timelines, budgets, milestones and standards;
  • Ensuring that appropriate program, project and service monitoring, evaluation and review systems are implemented to effectively inform planning and reporting processes and ensure continuous improvement;
  • Ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of technical extension services to land managers to improve adoption of best practice management of waterways and erosion control mitigation measures;
  • Ensuring genuine First Nations participation in waterway management programs and projects.
  • Promoting FBA services and achievements to land managers and stakeholders;
  • Supporting an organisation-wide collaborative approach to the exploration of new initiatives that align with and enable FBA to deliver on the FBA strategic plan and vision;
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with external delivery partners and organisations to achieve best practice outcomes;
  • Leading the identification and pursuit of new delivery opportunities and collaborations with other organisations on waterway management services;
  • Undertaking work in a manner that complies with FBA policies, procedures and values; and
  • Supporting the corporate strategy and vision of FBA.

Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary qualification or post-graduate training qualifications in Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Science, Environmental Science, or similar discipline is highly desirable. A strong understanding of financial and project management, and a demonstrated history in the implementation of initiatives to drive business performance is also highly regarded.

Other Requirements

  • The Waterway Leader will maintain their technical knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office software.
  • Possession of a current Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Ability to travel and spend nights away from the home base to attend meetings, conferences and training.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors and undertake physical activities.

Reporting and Supervision

This position reports to the Adoption Manager and supervises two Waterway Management Coordinators.Salary, Superannuation and other benefitsThe successful applicant will be offered a Contract of Employment consistent with the FBA Policies and Procedures and FBA salary framework.

In addition to superannuation guarantee payments, FBA offers to match voluntary superannuation contributions by employees up to an additional 3% of salary.FBA is keen to work with arrangements that suit the right person/people for the job, and to that end, are willing to negotiate part-time arrangements, including job sharing. Daily hours of work are flexible, reflecting the need for the successful applicant to work hours that suit clients.

  1. Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships.
  2. Strong strategic and analytical skills to strengthen FBA delivery services.
  3. Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and motivate employees, with significant experience in managing multi-disciplinary and collaborative teams to deliver.
  4. Highly developed interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, including negotiation and advisory skills and experience in preparing high quality, detailed reports.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of landscape and waterway erosion processes and soil conservation, gully erosion mitigation, and/or riparian and streambank restoration and management techniques.
