The role

The Fundraising and Donor Relations Lead, reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, manages and oversees the broader fundraising function with a focus on standard and mid-value donor portfolios.

This role is responsible for developing and executing multichannel fundraising strategies, including appeals, regular giving programs, and comprehensive donor engagement initiatives. The Lead will design and track tailored donor journeys, ensuring each donor’s experience is optimised to enhance long-term relationships.

The Fundraising and Donor Relation Lead will guide the creation and implementation of multichannel strategies, encompassing each stage of the donor journey including identification, qualification cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of standard and mid value donors and prospects. The position requires proficiency in data analysis and CRM systems for reporting donor activities and financial reconciliation.

A strategic thinker and strong communicator with the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and stakeholders, the Fundraising and Donor Relations Lead will play a pivotal role in driving fundraising success and supporting the broader philanthropy team.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for:

• Develop and implement multichannel fundraising strategies to engage standard and mid-value donors, including appeals, regular giving programs, and donor stewardship initiatives.
• Create and track personalized donor journeys to enhance engagement and retention, ensuring tailored experiences that foster long-term relationships.
• Manage and grow a mid-value donor portfolio, focusing on gift cultivation, solicitation, and moves management to optimize donor involvement and contributions.
• Coordinate and execute fundraising appeals, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategies.
• Supervise the Senior Donor Relations Advisor, providing guidance to effectively manage donor relationships and fundraising activities.
• Collaborate with the Head of Philanthropy and other stakeholders to align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities and funding needs.
• Use data analysis and CRM systems to track donor activities, report on performance, and ensure accurate gift processing and financial reconciliation.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, key stakeholders, and executives, providing regular updates on fundraising progress and organizational impact.
• Support the creation of clear, consistent donor communications that align with fundraising strategies and strengthen donor engagement.
• Monitor and evaluate fundraising campaigns, identifying areas for improvement and recommending data-driven enhancements for future efforts.
• Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations and best practices, upholding high standards of donor care and ethical conduct.
• Manage administrative tasks related to fundraising activities, including budget tracking, scheduling, and reporting to senior leadership.
• Build and manage a pipeline of mid value prospects and donors to generate philanthropic income, nurturing relationships and securing long-term support.

The role attracts an annual salary offer of Professional Staff level 8 $108,195 commensurate with experience.

About you:

The successful candidate will have:

• Proven experience in fundraising within the not-for-profit sector, specializing in developing and executing multichannel strategies to engage standard and mid-value donor audiences.
• Strong ability to manage and execute multichannel fundraising campaigns, including regular giving programs, appeals, and donor stewardship initiatives.
• Expertise in donor moves management, including the design and implementation of personalized engagement strategies to maximize donor involvement and retention.
• Solid experience collaborating with donors, key stakeholders, and executives, with a clear understanding of organizational funding priorities and the ability to align strategies accordingly.
• Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, using data-driven insights to optimize fundraising strategies and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Knowledge of medical research fundraising and the scientific community, with a strong understanding of the philanthropic impact on research.
• Experience in crafting donor communications that are aligned with fundraising strategies, reinforcing the organization’s goals and impact.
• Ability to assess and refine fundraising campaigns based on performance data, implementing adjustments for continuous improvements.
