The role

The Philanthropy Specialist manages and develops a portfolio of high-value donors and prospects through all stages of the donor cycle—identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship—to secure major gift revenue. This includes conducting detailed prospect research and profiling, leading face-to-face engagements, and developing compelling proposals.

The specialist also provides administrative support for donor engagement activities, including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings and events, managing correspondence, and handling event coordination.

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects to cultivate meaningful relationships and secure major gift revenue through effective donor moves management strategies, including face-to-face engagements and written solicitations.
  • Strengthening relationships and build trust with existing and prospective donors through proactive written and verbal communication, highlighting the impact of their contributions and other potential areas of support.
  • Engaging in detailed prospect research and create detailed profiles of existing and prospective donors;
  • Maintaining accurate records in the database of engagements with major donors and relevant stakeholders
  • Providing administrative support, including scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings and events, managing donor correspondence, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and handling event coordination as needed.

The role attracts an annual salary offer of $108,195 (Professional Staff Level 8.1), commensurate with experience.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in fundraising within the not-for-profit sector, with a successful track record of cultivating and securing major gifts through targeted donor moves management strategies, including face-to-face engagement and written solicitations.
  • Expertise in designing and executing donor moves management plans tailored to major donors, with a focus on enhancing donor experiences, increasing engagement, and fostering long-term retention.
  • Experience in conducting detailed prospect research, leveraging multiple data sources to create thorough donor profiles that inform strategic engagement decisions and prioritise high-value opportunities.
  • Experience working closely with both donors and executives, with an understanding of the organisation’s funding needs and the ability to create and execute fundraising strategies that align with these needs.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and CRM systems, including managing donor portfolios, tracking donor activities, ensuring accurate gift processing, and conducting financial reconciliation to ensure accountability.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to derive actionable insights from data to inform fundraising strategy and drive results.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively, build trust, and confidently conduct professional conversations with donors, executives, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with donors, stakeholders, and team members, negotiating positive outcomes and promoting collaboration.
  • Professional maturity and discretion, demonstrating sensitivity and confidentiality in all donor and organisational dealings, with a commitment to upholding ethical standards in fundraising practices.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with a capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset, able to work both autonomously and as part of a diverse team, contributing to a shared vision of equity, diversity, and inclusivity, and achieving fundraising objectives.
