FORM Building a State of Creativity Limited (FORM) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation based in Claremont and our purpose is to be a leader in developing a vibrant creative economy for the benefit and wellbeing of all Western Australian communities.

Through a process of co-creation, we amplify the voices of Aboriginal people in an expression of their living continuous cultural heritage. We work to build a cultural and creative ecology in Western Australia that values artistic excellence, improves arts access for all, and encourages resilient and vibrant communities.

FORM is well-known for delivering significant cultural tourism projects and creative experiences in collaboration with key strategic partners, including Ngurra Kuju Walyja — One Country One People — The Canning Stock Route Project; Tracks We Share: Contemporary Art of the Pilbara; and Thomas Dambo’s Giants of Mandurah. We also manage FORM Gallery in Perth and Spinifex Hill Studio and Project Space in South Hedland.

The Opportunity

The Community Engagement Specialist is a newly created role and will be a key part of the Cultural Tourism team, focusing on community-led programs of capacity building and community development across Western Australia, working in collaboration with the wider FORM team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Aboriginal communities of the Pilbara.
  • Use community engagement strategies to gain an understanding of issues of importance, key challenges, current capacity, and opportunities of relevance to inform significant projects.
  • Establish and oversee a governance framework and a continuous review and improvement process.
  • Design and oversee a cultural liaison program and support training and development opportunities for Aboriginal people in the region.

What you'll need to get you started

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders
  • A deep understanding of cultural sensitivity and knowledge of cultural protocols.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practice community engagement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of the contemporary Aboriginal art sector including the Pilbara.
  • An understanding of cultural tourism principles, trends, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with frontline management, conflict resolution, and/or leadership theory.
  • Tertiary qualification in arts management, tourism, or related discipline.
  • Minimum two (2) years' of experience in stakeholder engagement for major projects.
  • Project management or related certifications are desirable.
  • National Police Clearance and a valid Driver's license.

Desirable Qualifications

  • IAP2 Certification
  • ICIP protocol training
