Foundations for Tomorrow (FFT) is an independent, youth-driven non-profit advancing long-term governance and protecting the interests of future generations. Our mission is to empower Australian leaders across generations to ensure today’s decisions create a resilient and inclusive future.

With notable achievements such as the launch of the Intergenerational Fairness Coalition, establishment of the Australian Parliamentary Group for Future Generations and spearheading the introduction of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Bill (2025), FFT is at the forefront of intergenerational policy innovation and advocacy. As we implement our ambitious 2025–2027 strategy, FFT seeks a dynamic Director of Operations to support the organisation into its next phase of growth and impact.

Role Overview

  • Location: Remote within Australia (occasional travel within Australia may be required)
  • Employment Type: Part-time contract (6-12 months duration, 3 days per week)
  • Reports to: FFT Managing Director (Taylor Dee Hawkins)
  • Salary Band: AUD $85,000 annual salary (pay pro rata for 3 days a week based on this FTE annual salary) inclusive of 11% superannuation, negotiable based on experience.
  • Desired Start Date: June 2025

Role Purpose

The Director of Operations will implement FFT’s strategy, support key initiatives such as the For Our Future Campaign, and enhance the organisation’s internal capacity. As FFT’s operational lead, the Director of Operations will shape the delivery of strategic goals, coordinate stakeholders, and lay the groundwork for sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Implementation:

  • Execute FFT’s 2025–2027 Strategy, including state and territory reform efforts in TAS, ACT, and WA.
  • Oversee the coordination of the Australian Parliamentary Group for Future Generations and Intergenerational Fairness Coalition.

Operational Leadership:

  • Manage FFT’s day-to-day operations, ensuring effective use of resources and organisational hygiene.
  • Develop workflows and documentation to enhance efficiency and capacity.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with political leaders, civil society, and industry to strengthen FFT’s networks.

Team and Volunteer Management:

  • Coordinate efforts across FFT’s volunteer team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and shared purpose.

Advocacy and Communications:

  • Support increasing public awareness of Foundations for Tomorrow and its associated initiatives.
  • Coordinate stakeholder communications and maintain FFT’s positioning and public communications. 

Resource Development:

  • Support fundraising and partnership initiatives to secure FFT’s financial sustainability.

The Ideal Candidate

You are:

  • A Strategic Operator: Skilled in translating vision into actionable plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Resourceful and Entrepreneurial: Able to navigate challenges with creativity and independence.
  • A Strong Collaborator: Experienced in stakeholder management and relationship-building.
  • Purpose-Driven: Passionate about intergenerational equity and systemic reform.

Essential Competencies:

  • Notable and relevant experience in leadership, strategic planning, advocacy, or policy.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects, teams, and partnerships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills..
  • Familiarity with tools like Xero, Squarespace, Canva, or Mailchimp is desirable but not required.

Other Relevant Information

  • The successful candidate will be encouraged to work flexibly, both in terms of accommodating their other commitments and adjusting to occasional ‘out-of-hours’ needs, such as early morning or late afternoon meetings. The ethos for managing this role prioritises the quality and impact of outcomes rather than rigid working methods or hours. The Director of Operations will be trusted to execute their role in a manner best suited to achieving the desired results.

  • It is assumed that the successful candidate will have access to a personal phone and laptop. FFT will reimburse all reasonable work-related expenses, such as internet and phone charges, based on set ATO rates.   • Advancing state-based reforms in priority jurisdictions (TAS, ACT, WA) while re-establishing the Parliamentary Group for Future Generations post-federal election.
  • Developing the Intergenerational Fairness Coalition to provide a robust and inclusive civil society movement to advance intergenerational fairness in Australia.
  • Expanding financial sustainability through consulting services and philanthropy, supported by the attainment of DGR status.
