Fresh Theatre for Social Change is a Not for Profit Company Ltd by Guarantee with PBI status governed by a Board of Directors who oversee the strategic and operations of the Fresh program.
Job Summary - 16 hours per week
We are seeking a creative and passionate Artistic Director to lead the artistic vision of our Youth Theatre Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality youth theatre productions, workshops, and programs that align with our ethos and values. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to the growth and development of our youth theatre program.
Artistic Vision and Programming
- Develop and implement a performance season that is innovative, relevant, and challenging to audience and the community.
- Create and deliver the Fresh workshop program on a weekly basis, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for young people to explore their creativity and develop their skills.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement the overall artistic vision of the company, ensuring that our programming aligns with our mission and values.
Leadership and Management
- Provide leadership and support to the team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
- Attend regular meetings with the leadership team and connect with the Executive Director on a regular basis.
- In collaboration with the board, seek out and make applications for grants or funding opportunities to support ongoing funding arrangements for the theatre.
Managing, Supporting, and Leading a Team of Volunteers
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, promoting volunteer engagement and retention.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules, rosters, and roles, ensuring adequate coverage for productions and workshops.
- Manage a team of volunteer assistants, directors, and crew members to support the production team.
- Provide clear guidance, support, and feedback to volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to contribute effectively to productions and workshops.
- Recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions, providing opportunities for growth and development.
Community Engagement and Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with partnering organisations, ensuring a safe and responsible working environment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with young people attending the workshops, offering support and guidance as needed.
- Foster partnerships with community organisations and stakeholders to promote the company's mission and values.
Administration and Production
- Plan, facilitate, rehearse, and develop and implement two performance seasons a year, ensuring high-quality productions that meet our artistic and technical standards.
- Provide resources required to present weekly workshops and ensure effective administration and logistical support for productions.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications (or currently studying) in performing arts and/or education.
- Ability to conduct yourself in a safe and responsible manner.
- Must hold a current Working with Children's Check.
- Adherence to policies of Fresh and partnering organisations in regard to child safety and OH&S
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively with young people and provide support and guidance as needed.
- Strong artistic vision and production skills, with experience in applied theatre and community engagement, ideal.
