About the Opportunity

The Clinical Manager, Specialist Units is responsible for overseeing delivery of clinical services in Ravenhall’s specialist units including the Close Supervision Unit (CSU) (25-bed Unit for prisoners with extreme and/or challenging behaviours); Mission Based Unit (MBU) (25 bed treatment community for remand prisoners); and Forbes Management Unit. They play a pivotal role in overseeing the implementation of the treatment community models within the CSU and MBU and will work closely with the Correctional Manager of these areas.

Key responsibilities for this position are:

  • Lead and manage the day to day operations of the CSU (25-bed Unit for prisoners with extreme and/or challenging behaviours) and MBU (25 bed treatment community for remand prisoners).
  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise to support the implementation of the treatment community models in the CSU and MBU and provide clinical support where appropriate to Forbes Management and Forensic Mental Health Units.
  • Provide direct line management and clinical supervision to the Senior Clinician, CSU and Senior Clinician, Complex Needs Team.
  • Provide clinical expertise and advice to internal and external stakeholders including in relation to Positive Behaviour Support, Treatment Community models and working with complex and challenging behaviours
  • Where required, monitor the scheduling of any programs to ensure that contractual requirements are met.
  • Facilitate training, coaching and mentoring to clinical, custodial and other staff working across the Specialist Units.
  • Support the implementation of Ravenhall’s integrated case management model within the specialist units.
  • Act as a role-model who can actively embed a positive therapeutic culture into all aspects of service delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to promote service integration and responsive delivery of interventions.

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in the role of Clinical Manager, Specialist Units role you will have:

  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or other related field. Psychologists will have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA); Social Workers will be members of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW); and Counsellors will be registered with the Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (ARCAP).
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience as a registered practitioner working with clients with extreme and/or challenging behaviours stemming from a mental illness, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury or other cognitive impairment, autism spectrum disorder, and/or personality disorder.
  • Experience in Forensic Risk Assessment, Functional Behaviour Assessment, the development of Behaviour Support Plans and implementation of environmental, behavioural and other responsive interventions, to reduce challenging behaviours.
  • Experience working in an institutional, residential or correctional setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the “What works” literature in offender rehabilitation, in addition to the application of the Good Lives Model (GLM) and principles of Risk Need Responsivity (RNR) in reducing recidivism in offender populations.
  • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal skills that ensure positive relationships are built and maintained with staff and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead a team of senior clinical professionals, to role model positive values and behaviours, to create vision, set clear direction, and provide clinical supervision, coaching and mentoring.
  • Experience in the facilitation of clinical training and professional development to clinical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines to achieve prescribed outcomes.
