About Future Group

Future Group is not your traditional financial services company – we’re a collective of super funds and services committed to changing our planet now for a better tomorrow. When you join us, you’ll become part of a team united by a clear and important mission: to lead the investment movement by advocating and campaigning for a future worth retiring into.

We are seeking someone to join our purpose-led high-growth scale-up as a Senior Technical Lead. As the Senior Technical Lead, you will not only make significant coding contributions as a senior developer, but also lead and guide your team, ensuring high-quality outcomes and happy people! Your focus will extend beyond project deadlines; you’ll foster an environment where team members thrive, enjoy their work, and continually grow in their careers.

Your north star: you’ll drive innovation, excellence, and collaboration within the team, ultimately shaping the architecture, development practices, and cultural dynamics of our entire technology ecosystem. Your leadership will not only impact project success but also contribute to the long-term growth and success of our platform and the individuals within our team.

And the best bit, you’ll get to work with some fantastic work mates. Our team is driven, collaborative, and passionate about technology. Together, we foster a culture of innovation, respect, and continuous growth, where each team member is valued for their unique contributions.

We strongly encourage applications from people with diverse lived experience and identities, as the problems we face are complex, and the more diverse our team is, the better our solutions become. We are a team that is all about building a strong workplace culture, that’s not only diverse, but competent. We are always learning and doing better together, and holding ourselves to account on our values.

Future Group values lived experience and we encourage applications from people with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, who have caring responsibilities, from culturally and racially marginalised groups, people with disability, people who experience ageism, LGBTQIA+ people, and people who experience social exclusion because of their social class.

If you require any adjustments throughout the recruitment process, please reach out to our talent team at [email protected]. We want to ensure our recruitment process is equitable for all, and we’ll happily make any reasonable adjustments where required.

You’ll love this job if:

  • You find superannuation opaque and frustrating, if you had the chance to revolutionise the industry to be better for people, you would
  • You love sharing your ideas and seeing what happens. At this scale-up, you’re not just a small fish in a big pond. Your contributions have a direct influence on our impact and how we work
  • You like to be kept on your toes – change is inevitable here. You like to tackle new challenges, and maybe even discover talents you never knew you had
  • You’re passionate about leadership and excel in mentorship, actively supporting and fostering the growth of team members
  • You possess clear and articulate communication skills and can seamlessly interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You’re still keen to be hands-on and in the code!

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Believes in Future Group’s mission and has a passion for moving Australia’s money out of fossil-fuels and into renewable energy
  • Believes in using the power of money to build a sustainable and equitable world
  • Has had exposure to our tech stack: .Net, react, reactive native and AWS. We know that some of this can be learnt on the job, but a proficiency in .Net and a solid grasp of Cloud Architecture (preferably AWS) will be key
  • Is a strong and passionate people leader and brings 2-3 years of leadership experience with them

Some nice-to-haves but are not essential are:

  • Experience with project management tools such as Jira or Trello to streamline project tracking and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and related tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI for optimising software delivery processes.
  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes/EKS to facilitate scalable and portable deployments.
  • Experience having worked within a startup/scale-up environment is a huge plus!

As the Senior Technical Lead you will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies for managing project scope throughout the entire project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with business objectives and stakeholder expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Developers, DevOps Engineers, Quality Assurance Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers, to drive effective communication and coordination, fostering a collaborative and cohesive working environment.
  • Utilise excellent communication skills to determine project requirements, provide accurate estimates and timelines, and facilitate effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Champion excellence in software engineering practices by reviewing code, managing technical debt, and promoting high code quality standards, ensuring adherence to best practices and methodologies.
  • Identify and address bottlenecks that hinder project progress, leveraging problem-solving skills to develop effective solutions and mitigate risks, ultimately ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, support, mentoring, and motivation to technical team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Uphold company policies and security standards by conducting regular security audits to identify areas for improvement, ensuring the integrity and security of software systems and infrastructure.
  • Provide architectural, software, and system design direction, maintaining a strong knowledge of web development, software engineering principles, design patterns, and methodologies, while also demonstrating a working knowledge of cloud infrastructure.
  • Liaise with senior management to communicate strategic plans and initiatives, aligning technical efforts with broader business goals and objectives.
  • Support issue resolution by providing guidance and decisions on resolving support issues efficiently and effectively, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and product reliability.

Don’t tick all the boxes?- that’s okay, we like thinking outside the box anyway. We value skills, passion and who you are over what you’ve done or where you’ve studied. So if this job strikes a chord, we want to hear from you!
