About the role

The Research Officer will be a Djirra employee supporting the Manager and a Governance Group (GG) composed of Aboriginal Community Control Organisations (ACCOs) to implement the new Western Melbourne Justice Reinvestment project.

The Research Officer will play a key role in designing and implementing participatory Aboriginal research methodologies to build community evidence and data in line with Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles and Indigenous Data Governance protocols.

You will be based out of Djirra’s office in the West and work from other offices as needed:

  • Support Aboriginal-led data collection and mapping processes including data/literature reviews, community mapping (i.e. asset mapping, stakeholder and systems mapping).
  • Facilitate participatory action research design methodologies to support the creation, sharing, use and storage of data in line with Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles and Indigenous Governance protocols.
  • Facilitate the design of culturally safe data collection processes and tools and support the analysis of the information.
  • Contribute quantitative and qualitative information/evidence to inform GG decision making and for reporting and communicating with different audiences
  • Support the roles of the community researchers and support their capacity building/mentoring.
  • Contribute to the design of a self-determined Outcomes and Measurement Framework to accompany the JR strategy.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated relevant experience in equivalent roles
  • Demonstrated experience in research and skills in data collection, data entry, interviewing, survey administration in either a university or research focused role at an organisation.
  • Demonstrated or desire to develop knowledge and skills in Aboriginal research design methodologies.
  • A Victorian Employees Working with Children's Check card or willing to obtain one
  • Willing to obtain a Police Check at Djirra's expense
