Gateway Community High is a small alternative high school commencing operation in Carlingford in January 2021.

We are seeking a very special person to be our inaugural Head of School and provide leadership of Gateway Community High. This is an exciting start-up opportunity for someone to create an exceptional school, lead a team, and inspire our students.

The school will provide opportunities for young people to thrive in an educational setting tailored to support their learning and belonging. Commencing with 30 Stage 5 students from 2021 we will be offering a NESA curriculum which enables students to attain their ROSA. We plan to grow to a maximum of 80 students over the next 3 years.

As a Special Assistance School this low/no fee school will offer a flexible, engaging, and practical learning environment for students to reconnect with their education and set a new direction. Designed to cater for students, that for various reasons, might achieve their educational goals, feel a sense of belonging and achieve personal growth outside a mainstream school setting. The school is not a behavioural or special school but will offer positive, personalised and inclusive learning experiences.

Gateway Community High is an initiative of Macquarie Community College a highly regarded not for profit adult education provider, operating across NorthWest and Western Sydney for more than 70 years. The School has its own dedicated premises on the Macquarie Community College site at Carlingford.

Commencing with a 0.4 teaching load, the successful candidate will be responsible for nurturing the philosophy, culture and values with staff and students to achieve our vision of creating better futures.

This position would suit someone with experience in a similar role, or someone looking to take that next step.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Ability to bring the vision, philosophy and values of the school to life in its first years.
  • Passion for positively influencing re-engagement through student-centred alternative educational approaches and holistic support.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and community building skills to build productive relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Leadership skills to ensure achievement of students- academically, socially and personally
  • Big Picture thinking with attention to detail - inspiring and innovative about student achievement whilst complying with NESA’s regulatory frameworks and required policies and procedures
