Gymea Community Aid & Information Service GCAIS) in its 50th year embraces its mission to improve the lives of our diverse clientele and empower them to connect with and participate in their communities. We do this through offering evidence-based advice and programs, appropriate practical support, policy representation of client needs and advocacy on issues that may affect their wellbeing, quality of life and longevity.
GCAIS is a vibrant community organisation seeking to employ a motivated and passionate person to join our Settlement and Multicultural Services team.
YOUR ROLE
This position will be responsible for providing case management, information sessions, group programs and community development opportunities to refugee and migrant clients:
- Case management, assessments and referrals,
- Coordinate and deliver information sessions,
- Build social networks by engaging clients with group, cultural and community activities,
- Expand community development activities as well as support existing opportunities such as driving, water safety, health and employment expos,
- Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, building and sustaining partnerships,
- Program and statistical reporting to funding bodies.
To be considered you will need:
- A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in a similar role,
- Tertiary qualifications in social work, community services, community welfare, or another relevant field,
- Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to newly arrived migrants and humanitarian entrants,
- Demonstrated ability to work positively and effectively as part of a hard-working team and with external stakeholders and clients,
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage complex situations, work cross-culturally and build effective relationships,
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with data management systems,
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail,
- A police check and working with children clearance, are required.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
- Experience working in family & domestic violence,
- Additional language skills relevant to client groups would be highly regarded,
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing projects for a broad range of community groups,
- Highly developed advocacy and negotiation skills,
- Experience in a not-for-profit organisation, particularly with community engagement and support programs,
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices,
- Driver’s licence and your own vehicle.
