about the role

The Communications Assistant is part of the Communications team that sits within GenWest’s Office of the CEO. The team is responsible for overseeing GenWest’s brand strategy, ensuring our communications are inclusive and accessible to all. We focus on telling engaging stories about victim survivor journeys and plain language stories about the impact of our gender equity programs.

The purpose of the communications assistant role is to support the delivery of internal and external communications activities. This role works alongside the communications team to deliver these activities in creative ways, ensuring staff are well connected and informed, and enhancing public understanding of GenWest’s programs and services.

Reporting into the Communications Manager, this position is responsible for:

  • Supporting in the delivery of our newsletters and ebulletins.
  • Supporting the development of social media posts.
  • Keeping our website and intranet up to date.
  • Developing and delivering high quality digital communications.
  • Aiding the team with organising, promoting and delivering online and face-to-face events.
  • Supporting the production and distribution of high-quality materials for a range of audiences.
  • Coordinating and responding to internal and external enquiries and requests.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in media, communications or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year experience as a minimum in a communications related role, e.g public relations assistant, marketing/digital media assistant or similar.
  • Excellent written communication skills and proven experience in producing documents and online content to a high standard.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain relationships with a diverse range of people including colleagues, external suppliers and members of our community in the west.
  • A high degree of competence with a range of software programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and demonstrated proficiency in IT applications including email, electronic calendars, filing systems and databases.
