The Gillamii Centre is based in the Kent Frankland subregion within the South Coast region of Western Australia, covering a total area greater than 450,000 hectares. The subregion is situated in the geographical area of the Cranbrook and Broomehill-Tambellup Shires.

Position Summary

The Natural Resource Management Officer is responsible for the development and management of projects that support sustainable use, conservation, and management of natural resources, within an agricultural landscape. The officer will work to integrate sustainable agricultural practices with natural resource management to enhance soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity while optimising agricultural productivity in the Kent-Frankland subregion. Additionally, the officer will collaborate with local stakeholders, including government agencies, landowners, farmers, Traditional Owners, and environmental groups, to support and promote productive agriculture, rural communities and healthy natural ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of funding submissions to support the delivery of projects in line with the Gillamii Centre’s Strategic Plan and broader regional goals.
  • Project and financial management of assigned project/s.
  • Lead effective delivery of project deliverables and outcomes.
  • Project reporting responsibilities (submission of all required reporting in accordance with internal and contract requirements).
  • Communicate and coordinate key stakeholder relationships to foster effective communication and collaboration.
  • Communication and awareness-raising responsibilities for allocated project/s.
  • Build and promote the organisation's reputation through activities such as community and industry outreach, including publications, events and presentations.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Officer.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as environmental science, natural resource management, project management or a related agricultural industry.
  • Passion for environmental conservation, rural communities and sustainable agriculture.
  • Possession of C-class driver’s license.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Critical thinking and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Advanced computer skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience working for/in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Proven history of funding acquisition and/or grant writing.
  • Computer skills in the following – GGIS, Canva, Zoom, Squarespace and Dropbox.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience working with in/with regional communities.
  • Experience working with First Nations communities and/or organisations.
  • Communications and/or social media management.

Working Conditions

  • The position may require occasional travel to remote or rural areas for fieldwork and site assessments.
  • Physical stamina to work in outdoor settings, including walking long distances or working in diverse terrains and weather conditions.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet project deadlines or during specific seasons.
