About the Role

As an Aquatic Education Teacher for Glen Eira Leisure (GEL), you will conduct swimming lessons for one of two School groups:

  • School intensive programs run Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 3:00pm during school terms; OR
  • Learn to Swim lessons run Monday to Friday in the mornings and after school as well as Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Your role will contribute to building the self-esteem of children, enhance their confidence and provide professional swimming and water safety instruction in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. We want swimming lessons to be the best part of a child's day!

We offer a unique opportunity to those wanting to become Aquatic Education Teachers by providing Swim Teacher qualifications for all successful candidates.

Successful candidates will have:

  • A passion for teaching children how to swim.
  • A fun and positive demeanour that resonates with children.
  • Ability to work in a team and help foster team goals.
  • Well-developed supervision skills and customer service skills
  • Employee Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)

Important information

Short listed candidates will be invited to attend an interview on one of the following dates;

  • Wednesday 19 June 2024: 4pm to 5pm OR
  • Monday 24 June 2024: 4pm to 5pm OR
  • Wednesday 26 June 2024: 4pm to 5pm OR
  • Tuesday 2 July 2024: 2pm to 3pm OR
  • Tuesday 2 July 2024: 4pm to 5pm

If successful, you will also be invited to attend the following 2-day Swim Teacher course held at GESAC which will be subsidised by GEL:

Saturday 13 July and Sunday 14 July 2024 from 8.30am to 5.30pm

Please note that Swim Teacher training hours must be completed at GESAC within 3 weeks of course completion.

This position is subject to satisfactory Police Check and Employee Working with Children Check prior to commencement. Pre-employment checks are not used by Glen Eira City Council to prevent any applicant from applying for this position. Each application will be considered on its merits.

Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) is one of Australia's premier Sports and Aquatic Centres that features state of the art aquatics, fitness, sports, rehabilitation, wellness, café and occasional care facilities. Carnegie Memorial Swim Centre (CMSC) is a seasonal outdoor pool which has been servicing the community for over 60 years. Caulfield Recreation Centre (CRC) is a fully equipped gym which offers personal training and group fitness classes. With over 1.7 million attendances annually, these popular facilities are widely used by the local and regional community.
